Microsoft emerges as leading suitor for TikTok’s U.S. business, as Trump plans to order its divestiture from Chinese parent

President Trump plans to sign an order forcing China’s ByteDance to sell off the U.S. portion of TikTok, and Microsoft is the leading suitor in contention to purchase it.

The divestiture order is coming as soon as today, according to current and former U.S. officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it publicly. One of the individuals confirmed Microsoft was in the lead to acquire the popular short-form video platform’s U.S. service.

“We may be banning TikTok,” Trump told reporters before leaving for Florida on Friday. “We may be doing some other things. There are a couple of options. But a lot of things are happening, so we’ll see what happens. But we are looking at a lot of alternatives with respect to TikTok.”

The decision to force a sale comes amid growing concern that the Chinese government could access users’ private data. TikTok has disputed the claims throughout the U.S. government’s investigation.

Kylie and Kendall Jenner are amongst dozens of influencers BBC Click has discovered to be promoting the sale of imitation Apple AirPods on Instagram.

The two celebrities have a combined following of 322 million followers.

Apple says cloned earphones infringe its intellectual property rights.

Click's investigation uncovered dozens of social media influencers promoting clones of Apple Airpods and Apple Watches.

The influencers do not hold stock of the goods themselves. Instead, they promote links to websites where anonymous sellers ship the products directly from China.

The products typically may be indistinguishable from the genuine items at first glance but feature different brand names on their packaging and sometimes deliver a poor user experience.

Facebook removes troll farm posing as African-American support for Donald Trump
Facebook also removed hundreds of fake accounts linked to conservative media outlet The Epoch Times.

A separate troll operation, tied to pro-Trump media organization Epoch Media Group, featured 303 Facebook accounts, 181 pages, 44 Facebook groups and 31 Instagram accounts, which were followed by more than 2 million people across both services. Epoch Media Group is the parent company of the newspaper The Epoch Times. The accounts were tied to a digital media outlet called TruthMedia, which Facebook says it has banned from its services.

Facebook has removed a popular QAnon group for bullying, harassment, hate speech, and the sharing of potentially harmful misinformation.

The deleted Facebook group, called Official Q/Qanon, had nearly 200,000 members.

There are, however, many other QAnon groups that are currently still active on the platform.

A Facebook spokeswoman said the group was removed for "repeatedly posting content that violated our policies".

Facebook & Instagram have removed, banned, or restricted access to more than 10k pages, accounts, ads, and hashtags belong to QAnon, Antifa, and various militias.

On Wednesday, the company said it was removing more than 790 groups and 100 pages linked to QAnon. It is also blocking 300 QAnon hashtags and taking down 1,500 advertisements. Facebook is also placing restrictions on 1,950 groups, 440 pages, and 10,000 Instagram accounts linked to QAnon. The company said that those groups are still subject to removal pending an ongoing review.

The company is also removing 980 groups and 520 pages linked to militia organizations and groups that encourage riots, which it said included some that “identify as Antifa”. Facebook is also restricting 1,400 hashtags related to those groups.

Latest TikTok trend is to repost video of someone who killed himself on a Facebook, during a livestream, in content feeds kids would see.

On Monday, Brenda's 14-year-old daughter came running down the stairs. She was covering her mouth, crying and saying she was going to be sick.

"She was in such a state, shaking like a leaf and properly sobbing," Brenda, who lives near Edinburgh, told the BBC.

"I have never seen her that distressed. It was horrific and took ages to get the words out of her."

Brenda explained that her daughter had seen the suicide video after it appeared within the recommended clips of TikTok's For You section.

"She was scrolling through songs and funny videos when a bearded man in a white shirt appears behind a desk," the mother recalled, saying shortly after he was seen to kill himself.
