I would not feel comfortable living in the bay area if I wasn't getting BAH, but when the government gives me 3200ish tax free a month, I'm very much ok with it.
CA minimum is like 15.50, but even most fast foods start at 20+

median home sale price for mine and Panda's city is $1.9 million. you either have to combine healthy 6 figure incomes with a spouse to purchase, inherit, or split rent your entire life living hand-to-mouth. it's a pretty terrible state of affairs here.
u also charge half what you could
In case you're wondering - A family of 4 living in one of the three bay area counties is considered low income with an annual household income of $149k. Los Angeles is slightly better with $70k for individuals and $100k for household of 4.
Data if you think I'm pulling these numbers out of my ass - https://www.hcd.ca.gov/sites/default...imits-2023.pdf
edit: and I had to look at an old baseball player's house in my neighborhood. $2.27M for a 6800 sq ft 7bd 7ba. Meanwhile my dad's place is a 2100 sq ft large lot home 4bd 2ba fixer-uper for $1.23M
Cause Xno called me a pedophile because I was gay so he deserves anything I throw at him. He was on that republican all LGBTQ people are groomers bullshit years ago. I never played the victim lol I just told Nynja his posts were incorrect and the rest of spam clocked him. Girl at least get the context right.
Also you're one of the main ones lobbing some of the worst insults against spicy. So this pretending it's all kumbaya here is weird af.
Had to drop the rent to my CO house to $1885. Hopefully attract someone decent. Used to be mad easy getting tenants but for the first time in 7 years I’m paying for 2 mortgages.
This is in Colorado Springs. Major transient community.
The housing thing is tricky here. If you're going for SFH in some of the hot areas of CA (well pre-pandemic), you're going to be paying a crapton. Some of the folks obsessed with the SFH don't always understand the upkeep that comes with it, but I guess if they grew up out in those areas they didn't grow up doing yardwork and all the other crap a number of us did growing up.
If you're fine with a condo or townhome, then the prices get slightly more 'affordable'. So much of it in those areas is dictated by school district even moreso than other areas I've seen friends live in. Seen a couple of friends that own newer/nicer townhomes compared to people who bought mediocre SFH's for the status.
Also with some of the areas I've heard 'oh that area's unsafe' is usually just areas where the food actually isn't bland as hell.
My house is a bit over 3,900sq ft. Officially 4BR, 4bath, but we have a spare room in the basement serving as a 5th BR. Nice area, which in Kentucky means that theres a golf course 1/4 mile away and my back yard backs up to a state park with 50+ miles of walking and biking trails. My neighbor and I keep a path mowed to the closest walking trail from our yards.
I paid $470k, mortgage is $2400. My friends and coworkers like to make jokes that we are "house poor". I don't think we are, but people are floored that we are OK paying $2,400 a month for housing. Wife and I gross around $225-250k/yr. We put almost 100k down on the house.
Damn, 3900sq ft is huge.
