Facebook should have always been named Meta. As in the, "meta data" they collect and send to the government.
Deleted my Facebook/Instagram/Whatsapp last month and it feels great to no longer get those notifications.
i keep whatsapp to stay in easy contact with overseas pals but ya ditching all other social media was extremely liberating
Disappointed title wasn’t update to Meta Mayhem. Facebook Fallout at least would aliterate.
Shout out to Sucio Boys!
Meta. lmao
I approve of the new title.

dunno if it's been mentioned here. but with how much FB contributed to spreading misinformation and whatnot I found a bit of amusement in the (joke) theory that the new name is an acronym.

idk where the best place to talk about Theranos is, but since it's about putative tech companies ruining something good I guess it can go here.
I read Bad Blood a while back and had kind of a "whoa" reaction, but with the trial going on I've had a blossoming of Theranos takes lately:
1) Obviously it is terribly irresponsible to pretend you have usable medical technology that actually doesn't work (while giving people bad results).
2) No, it's not that strategically different from the rest of Silicon Valley. Fake it until you make it just isn't a viable strategy for any product involving biology.
3) None of their investors are sympathetic and their failure to do due diligence and verify that the company was legit enabled its bad behavior.
4) Elizabeth Holmes is like Robin Hood if Robin Hood was a lady who stole from the ultra-wealth and gave to the rich while being verifiably kooky.
My ideal outcome here is that everyone who was harmed by Theranos gets a cut of whatever value could be extracted from the company and none of the investors sees a dime.
Im just fascinated by the woman herself, the voice, the fixed yet disheveled hair, the absolute balls to go as far as she did with a product that barely, barely worked, the charisma she must have in person must be truly incredible
Or, hot-take, an entire life of being called special by others and having a privileged upbringing while living in a society that absolutely worships people with blonde hair and blue eyes led to a massively inflated ego that made her believe her own hype so deeply that there was never any doubt that she'd succeed at anything she attempted. Fake it till you make it dialed up to eleven due to the constant reinforcement and praise from those around her, from childhood to adulthood.
Crazy chick was getting high on her own supply so intensely that why wouldn't everything just work out in the end? It reminds me a bit of Bernie Madoff: just getting deeper and deeper into the ocean, but hey, we're here, so we might as well swim, baby!
Of course you find a way to make it about race.
Deny reality if you want. I care not.
