With how bloated the Twitter site itself is (constant checkbacks for logging views/impressions/clicks/suggesting-shit/etc), and how Twitter itself said many times over the years it's not turning any profit, I'm not surprised trimming the fat was the first of many orders to come?
If he's got engineers that can unfuck how that site runs and make it more responsive/lower-overhead, that'll save them money in the long run. If not, well, then he's doing the world a service by making Twitter more a pain in the ass to use which in turn makes it less of a viable platform for political abuse. I would love to see a rundown of staff positions let go and how many of them were actually relevant to operating Twitter as a business.
And once again, everybody wins.
Yes because the engineering is the problem with Twitter.

If we make drops free that'll stop the RMT!
Increase sub fees, that'll do it
If you have stock in Twitter sell it now.
