The funny thing about the Twitter collapse is watching some of my friends who made some small investments into Twitter (like 5-10 shares before Elon took over) post on the Faceyspace about how Twitter is going to “moon” not realizing that the company is going private and is going to most likely be delisted from the NYSE. They will get paid but most likely $2-3/share more than what they bought it for.

Honestly, I'm down with that.

There are so many people out there that see a blue checkmark and will take anything from that account as fact. Requiring at least some level of investment into it to keep the checkmark will theoretically weed out some of the troll/misinformation crowd.

Honestly, with the fact that he thinks that parody accounts are funny (except for when they make fun of him), I am starting to think that he knows people will just shell out the $8 just so they can make a parody account to try to show Elon that the verification system is broken, while he sits back and collects money. It kind of just opens the floodgates to anyone who wasn't on Twitter before to just go in and start parodying famous people just for lulz. We've already seen SpaceX, Nintendo, and various other government agencies being parodied/Falsey represented and Elon thinks it's hilarious. While funny on the surface, it has some pretty serious consequences if someone sends out harmful information from an account that is imitating a popular brand or government office.
