this argument is stupid simply because neither side of it can see each others perspective, so I'll just put my 2 cents here. I have been a service plumber since 2007, so I've done this shit for awhile now, I have personally been on the receiving end of both extremely polite and well mannered trans people, who did not get offended if I miss gendered them when we first met and we had an extremely good interaction while dealing with each other.
I have also been on the receiving end of extremely shitty people who, as soon as I miss gendered them, started to threaten me and demand shit like discounts on services rendered or flat out just called my boss and demanded I leave with no chance to reconcile, it's not a fun experience and I don't wish it on anyone.
That all being said I'm not going to hold the action of certain people against the entire group of them, nor do I think of myself as a marginalized person since I work in the service industry, and I resent the implication that I need to be pitied for having to deal with shitty people every so often, I'm a big boy and I can deal with it, or else I wouldn't work in this industry.
I remember when I got written up by HR for calling the trans woman "Dude" in a fit of anger as in "Dude, could you stop being lazy and do <x>" when Dude is baked into Californian vernacular as a genderless collective pronoun. My extremely progressive friends think she over reacted.

It is not that you need pity because you are marginalized. It is that you are exploited, abused, and marginalized, and it is wrong. Most people don't choose to be a big boy and work in the uber fun service industry because they love it so much (although Stockholmy vibes aren't uncommon for these workers), and I don't imagine you are an exception. Utilizing that to further a movement of policing gender and other narratives is obnoxious.
wild how that nuance stops with the whites in any other convo lol
The impression I have of the trans movement online is disorganized and often without direction or specific rather than general goals. I'm still waiting for it to be as coherent as the overall gay movent. No one here would have these same complaints about gays or lesbians.
There aren't rights or matters of decency being trampled here. This is not about being able to love another or marry, to adopt kids, etc. It's about trying to change the inane speech patterns of people who don't know or understand another they shouldn't be expected to, but boy is it a demand.
The pronoun bullshit is putting the cart well before even having a horse. I'd imagine hormone therapy and legislation like bathroom bills or don't say gay are well above and beyond the issues that should be focused on. Instead it's always this stupid pronoun shit. I'd imagine or at least hope we are all on the same page when it comes to the things that really matter to the trans community. Yet the wordplay is always this dominant kerfuffle. Enough already.
Some people have been nuanced, sure. Idk if the conversation on this is still going on because the nuanced people are the ones doing the yapping

They matter, but they aren't nearly as important. That's why they don't really matter because it's poor strategy that ends up backfiring. There is already enough pushback, as there is with any movement seeking rights, justice, equality, and fairness.
I don't dictate shit. We both live in their world and their society. If suggesting tangible objectives of greater impact rather than a culture war is "dictating" then you are doomed to fail.
Literally Archi said "this is a scenario that people make up in their heads though, not one that actually is a part of their lived experience". You also replied to that very post where he said "this is a scenario that people make up in their heads though, not one that actually is a part of their lived experience"
It’s definitely a thing that happens, but assholes are always going to be assholes, they aren’t assholes because they’re trans, they’re just trans people that happen to be assholes. It’s not really a complicated issue, but it is an issue in that it hurts the overall impression of trans people in the same way the overly militant feminists hurt the feminist movement as a whole, or that people way too far left or right politically hurt politics in general.
Sal ruined Dillon Harper for me.
