Sure, having a wealthy dad helped him bail on his military service in S. Africa and immigrate to America, so he's clearly significantly more privileged than most S. Africans but from when he sets foot in North America on a student visa it's weird cope to say he was in a uniquely privileged spot.
You're sounding like one of those bullshit millennial business success stories that try to downplay the part their parents loaned them millions and everyone else just isn't hustling enough.

Why are y'all deep throating the boot of that man. His family's money, name and connections gave him significant advantages over millions of people, even in North America and to pretend otherwise is delusional.

Lol, name and connections? Why do you think some random south african had any connections in silicon valley?

Elon's haters and his fans somehow remaining in perfect annoying balance - no lie that confirms their worldview is too far.

I dont think quality over quantity is a desirable trait when you're talking about $30k vehicles.

He came from a rich family, thats all you need to get a foot in the door and seat at the table over the average person. Hes not a tech or programming genius. He's pretty shitty at it, if you havent been paying attention to how poorly he's been dealing with Twitter. Literally doesn't matter that the musk fortune wasn't in tech.

Dude, it's not an "almost perfect meritocracy" just because you downplay botting to fit your narrative. By nature, this violates meritocracy, and not just in some pedantic manner that can be written off.

Using XI as an example of a nearly perfect meritocracy is ridiculous and tone deaf.

You need to get out of the mud because you are becoming a full fledged pig. The glasses you have been putting on are astoundingly tinted.

It's not that it is demonstrably false and flawed. That would fine in itself, but from how it is born of your world view.

That being said though, this is precisely why 75 cap FFXI was worth no-life'ing. Almost perfect meritocracy; the person that rearranged their sleep schedule to camp every King got more Kings.

No, because the EXTENT OF THE IMPACT is fully relevant. Like I asserted with respect to the "real world isn't a meritocracy" argument, inherited wealth is the problem precisely because it accounts for the vast majority of the biggest deviations from meritocracy.

That is not true with XI and botting. Post-lockout, the only thing botting did was to evenly distribute large groups of claimers to improve claim efficiency. That was far from a dominant advantage. You could succeed without botting. I am proof of that. I had one of the highest claim rates in iZerg despite refusing to bot. Collectively over my experience in FFXI HNMLS through four shells and three servers, there was never a situation where the non-botters were worse than 45% of the entire shell's claim rate.

The only times I have felt that botting was oppressive is when NASA shells would come in, recruit two full alliances, and THEN people would stop showing up because they thought it was pointless because "They have NASA."

No it wasn't NASA -- NASA just automated Wizbot's linked camping feature. It was the sheer numerical advantage of having two goddamn alliances. As long as people prioritized camping Kings, or rather the shell leader prioritized it, NASA wasn't shit. Even if you didn't use Wizbot, it wasn't shit. The was the difference between iZerg/Sylph and TribeFTW/Asura was that Panda kept forcing everyone to do Kings until well after Ito put XI into the grave. No one on Asura who got theirs gave a shit about fighting with the NASA shell (besides Soup because he still needed the D. Ring)

Jump claiming KB over LS’s using NASA will always be one of my highlights, that and using Super Jump to not die to the SMN NM in Dynamis-Xarcabard and then soloing the last 2% of its HP >.> 75 era was a wild time.

Worth also noting that the PS2 had a superior load advantage over PC during that time since the game was designed for PS2 first. So a PS2 player could frequently outclaim bots.

ps2 was much worse the more players/effects were on the screen and were also less likely to be able to remove darters. show me a ps2 player that could claim jorm in double ice weather standing in the middle of 50+ people. more likely than not they won't even see jorm for the entirety of the fight if they are standing on the foot.

we would generally kill darters even though we couldn't see them just for the ps2 players who sometimes ended up claiming a fafnir that literally never even visually loaded for them
