Back when Gretzky still played Hockey, Goalie pads were sized smaller then modern pads, lead to the whole "Lemiuex is better then Gretzky cause it was easier back then!" arguments from years ago, which in turn leads to the whole "McDavid is the better then Gretzky!" arguments of today, people are gonna nostalgia if for nothing else then to be able to imply shit like "Man, you don't even KNOW what shit was like in MY day!! we had to walk 50 miles through Zi'tah to get to Aery at 2 a.m! We lost claim to KTD on KB but managed to steal it and got a D.Ring!" and many other such anecdotes such as "The War on Adaberk!"...it was Blue and you all can fuck off with that :D

To be fair
If you watch Gretz highlights, the goalies back then were just cardboard cutouts. GAA north of 3 with a sv% under .890 was an elite HOF goaltender lol

And then Patrick Roy developed the move inspired by all the slutty Quebec girls (figure it out) which revolutionized goaltending.

Then Hasek came along, solved chaos theory and put it into goaltending.
