They’re never fixing the infrastructure, they don’t even deserve $20 a year when the games were online play for free until this shitty service came along, not a single improvement on the infrastructure.

On top of having that expensive ass n64 switch controller? Fuck them, seriously. You get a ton more value with game pass, and you get games on xbox and pc.
Sadly yeah. I saw people simping for this because "Ooooh N64 games!"

As others have brought up, for PS+ I usually just buy codes for that in like the $30-40 range rather than buying directly. Is that sort of thing even possible with Nintendo? Even if there is, I'm not sure there's enough in there for me to want to bother any time soon. The reality is I'd probably be like "cool, let me play these" during a dry spell when I have nothing new, but then like 10 months of the year I wouldn't bother using the extra stuff at all.

lol, this was exactly my initial reaction to be honest. I am always on the go for layovers, usually to places where there isn’t much to do. For entertainment I have my ipad, switch, headphones and that’s it. But yeah, thinking the deal over it may actually mean paying $50 for an old game or two that I may end up finishing in a month or so, then left with a subscription that I will have no use of.

It's exactly why I question why they axed the Virtual Console. It was a much better deal.

virtual console was nice ye but Nintendo was not a fan for whatever reason. the obscenely rigid corporate culture to blame as usual, or maybe it just didn't turn a significant profit though i can't imagine how given how little there is to emulating old Nintendo games.

I'm sure they made mad money off the VC considering how much money people threw at the NES/SNES classics.

    BotW

Xenoblade 2 since you like JRPGs. And 1 remastered if you never played it on Wii or 3DS

I'd put Metroid Dread up there as well.

Must have exclusives for me would be

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (and most definitely XC 1 Definitive Edition. Especially if you never played the original on the Wii)

    Breath of the Wild

Mario Odyssey if you like Mario games.

And probably Metroid Dread (haven't actually opened my copy yet cause I'm still slowly working through Tales with my limited free time, but it sounds like it lived up to the hype)

Oops. Didn't realize I basically said what Gred already said lol. Well, I 2nd his response.

    Fire Emblem 3 Houses
    Mario Odyssey
Breath of the Wild…greatly disappointed me but a lot of people dig it so maybe you’ll like it
Animal Crossing if that type of game is your thing
Pokémon Sword/Shield if you are into Pokémon

My thoughts on the big Nintendo exclusives

Mario Odyssey - Great game though it was designed to be played where you can make progress in short bursts. The main story won't take you too long but the postgame stars/costume collection is quite fun.

Zelda: BOTW - If you go into this expecting your typical Zelda experience you'll be in for a letdown. It's not too bad of a game if you go in it with an open world approach, but I still say fuck whomever thought breakable weapons were a good idea.

Splatoon 2 - It's a fairly fun online shooter though I'd wait and Splatoon3 if you're interested since that comes out next year.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - Pretty fun RPG though there are some QOL things I wish they added. I never played the DLC story but I heard it's good.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Great if you know people to play with since with randoms Nintendo's shitty online infrastructure makes it a pain to play.

Metroid Dread - Great game and really does the 2D Metroid series Justice.

Fire Emblem: 3 Houses - Great TRPG. The only real flaw I'd say there is the free time segments during the first half of the game.

Animal Crossing -More or less the same as others. It can be a good time killer but being only to move 1 house/bridge/etc. a day and it taking 24 hours to build can really be annoying unless you do time skips.

    Japan was a mistake

also man looking at this page made me realize the Switch library is pretty damn weak. console is nearly four years old and this is all it has to show for it. the first party stuff they've done slaps, and Fire Emblem was a gem, but there's just so little of it.

Speaking of we've heard basically nothing about a lot of big exclusive stuff. It's been 2 years since 3 houses came out and no word on the next FE game, No news on a new DK game, nothing on Prime 4, basically nothing on Zelda, Nothing new from Monolith Soft unless they are on BotW2 as well. There doesn't seem to be much in the pipeline to get excited about for this console.

Funnily enough, the DLC story adds a lot of that QoL stuff.

Wish the base game had it.

Eh, there's plenty but it's all so niche, or a console preference thing. I played the shit out of Hades on switch, def my favorite way to play it cause of the mobility. I also really like Picross, but that's hardly a system seller lol. There's also Pokemon, Luigi's ghost hunting series, the new Phoenix Wright game, Neo: The World Ends With You.

I just don't recommend them cause I feel like you know if you already like a lot of those games, and most ppl don't imo.
