Hilarious that they would announce that before announcing the fucking thing itself.
This is probably their most challenging development cycle. It has to have something special, whether in terms of performance or a “gimmick” over other handhelds. It also has to be at least as cool as Switch. No easy task unless they can magically strike a deal with Apple Silicon chips, they’d perform phenomenally in any handheld gaming system.
Tough stuff, time is on their side though as we are approaching towards the end of current gen and not much pressure from other consoles.
I think they’ll take their time.
Thinking about getting a Switch for my kids for Christmas. Should I:
Buy this $225 Target Black Friday deal and a couple games and call it a day?
https://www.target.com/p/nintendo-sw...90#lnk=sametab
Or buy a HAC-001 used on ebay and mod it up
Or buy the Target one and send it off for modchipping
Only care about console gaming, not mobile with it. No qualms about piracy, hate paying full price for games.
I'll take any suggestions.

Switch piracy is pretty good. I'd go with the eBay route because Nintendo games never go on sale.
My launch model is still kicking ass. I'd try to find one of those or get from/ship to a reputable mod chip installer if you want a newer OLED or something. Only problem with launch models is needing to buy one of those stupid little dongles to put it in recovery mode, but they were <$10 last I saw. One of those and a sizable SD card and good to go.
Sooner the better. Nintendo is actively attacking piracy from every angle including the most popular guides, programs, etc. I had to dig for some of the stuff I used last update. It's not going to go away but it is getting annoying.
Ordered a raw unpatched system on ebay from Japan, pieced together joycons, generic controllers, dock kit, joycon grips. Should all arrive in the next 10 days, gives me time to hack it and load up some games before Christmas.

Switch from Japan on eBay arrived today
4 days after I ordered it. Incredible.
Walking through the hack guide, so far so good

Archi's piracy skill increases by 0.1.
Archi's piracy skill reaches level 93.
This shit is hard, Nintendo nuked like half the resource sites

Yup. I ended up using Goldleaf last time. I used to use Tinfoil, but it wasn't updated properly. Goldleaf uses a java program to load things via usb which makes it annoying. Tinfoil just worked, until it didn't.
DBI bluescreened me, same with Awoo.
Definitely done updating for a while. Everything is being attacked, even the subreddit. They're trying really hard to find the people that ran the free shops it seems.
Goldleaf is picky as fuck. The nice thing about Tinfoil is that it wasn't. If it's an xci you'll have to convert it to an nsp, but it should work.
Tinfoil's had to change their website domain I see, but at least it's still around. If you're below 19.x it should work without issue, it's 19+ firmware that it wasn't fully functional on.
So I updated my syspatches (whatever tf those are) and now Goldleaf installed all my <4GB nsp games no problem. Then I tried DBI (despite being literally in russian) and was able to install the .xci games with that! So we're in business. Next step is figuring out how to install games larger than 4GB that don't fit on the SD card. I know the idea is to hook up to your PC with a cable and select the games to install on the PC, but I'm still learning how.
Also, I can launch homebrew via the media icon (applet version) but the guides say you can launch "full version" homebrew by holding R+launching any game or app, and that doesn't work for me at all? Dunno. Everything is working so far off applet.
Yeah you'd hold down R until it launches that same homebrew browser, but it'll be able to fully access RAM like that. If it doesn't work I'm not sure.
With Goldleaf you use something called Quark, it's a desktop app that connects to the Switch over USB. You'll need to install a JRE to use it. I think you also need the drivers (true regardless of which you end up going with), which I believe are mentioned in Quark's readme.
DBI I'm not sure. The desktop app people were recommending with it caused me to BSOD so I went back to Goldleaf. There are english editions of it but they're a bit old. They stopped at 658 iirc.
You'll want a copy of 4nxci probably if you continue to use Goldleaf, it's an added step of converting xci files since Goldleaf can't use them.
DBI is working well for the larger games off PC. Got an error on Smash bros though.
I just remembered Mario party, so I looked to download it
There's 3 fucking mario party games on switch...
Anyone have an opinion on the best one for kids age 5-10? I'm trying to get as many 4 player titles as possible so they can play together - Mario Kart, TMNT, Party, SSB, Tetris

I think I played the first one on Switch and the most recent (Jamboree). I like Jamboree more. I can't remember much about the first, but this one seems like it has more characters and customization. It also has solo and co-op modes (co-op might be good to prevent some fighting lol). You can also play online with friends (or randoms) if you have other family members with the game.
Ok, so here's my lineup for my kids:
SSB Ultimate
Super Mario Party
Minecraft Dungeons
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
TMNT Shredder's Revenge
Tetris Effect Connected
Super Mario Bros Wonder
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Super Mario Odyssey
Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening
Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
Tried to focus on getting as many 4-player games as possible, bought a couple extra cheap controllers off amazon for group play. I'm taking suggestions though!
