He literally told people to just go play GX, because there's be nothing new if they made a new one.

Better graphics, sound and all of the things that make other companies make new games don't matter to him. Its a new hook or gimmick that makes sequels happen in Nintendo land, unless you're Mario Party, I guess. Oh wait, no, the gimmicks in the latest games tanked that franchise as well.

He's turned into a better version of Vince McMahon and Al Davis, and needs to go, but he's too powerful and revered at this point.
That sounds frustrating. And really inconsistent. Like does Miyamoto touch EVERY game Nintendo releases? I never read/hear about him when we’re talking about other Nintendo games like Splatoon, Animal Crossing or Fire Emblem. But stuff like Starfox and Paper Mario have been disasters

I'm not sure, but I know that as basically the savior of Nintendo and factoring in the usual Japanese social setting of seniority above all, you have to imagine he has his finger on at least any game he wants to have it on. For every Splatoon hit, we get a Star Fox Zero, which was doomed by those stupid shoehorned gyro controls and other nonsense instead of just focusing on the pure core aspect of the game: fighting crazy battles in the arwing with a cook squad.

Im not sure we will see that level of say from Miyamoto much longer, if at all right now.

Ever since his temp spot as President post Iwata and now current role, essentially "Chief Tinkerer", the restructure has the heads of each division having a LOT more say in what their projects look like instead of Miyamoto being tagged Executive Producer in everything and having a veto power on anything developed.

Fire Emblem would technically be IS, but we've already seen the re-organized development divisions handle Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and Octo Expansion perfectly from start to finish without any tinkering or known influence from Miyamoto at all. I would be very surprised if any forced gimmick is implemented at the hands of Miyamoto directly anymore.

Koizumi was low key pushing the fact that Miyamoto only really got involved during Mario Odyssey on questions like "do you feel like this is working right?" and not "should we be doing this?". Anouma and his team have also handled Zelda very well IMHO in the direct absence of Miyamoto.

I don't mean to sound sour on the guy at all. He is a venerable god and his opinion should be taken into consideration. He has earned his position of being able to sit away and fiddle with concepts and ideas that may or may not be used in a game. His positives as a creative mind are hard-coded into Nintendo and much of the industry, and with Nintendo's development re-organization since 2015 he simply doesn't have that veto power he once had. That will reduce some fan frustration over titles like Star Fox Zero, but those timeless gems like Mario 64 come along that much less frequently.

Yeah, he’s a living god, but sometimes I just want him to stay in his lane. As much as I admire the guy, reading about his stance about stories in games makes my blood boil.

And yeah, I get like, the idea games need gimmicks to stay fresh. But I think that line is thinking is great for games like Mario/Zelda where they get 1-3 entries per console generation. Stuff like a new F-zero/Star Fox would completely fine even if its a similar game with higher technical stuff.

That's the problem with a living God, especially in a Japanese setting: reverence to him over all others. He's the emperor Hirohito of Nintendo, and franchises suffer because of it.

Thats what im saying. Kimishima kind of started the process, but the reorganization under Furukawa has limited nearly all potential negatives that Miyamoto may have had in franchise development to an opinion among many instead of one above the rest. The individual division heads seem to be taking what Miyamoto taught them, adding their touch, and producing quality product without the over reliance on the "new experience".

Side Note: Don't dismiss this Indie Direct as having no 1st party news. There have been more than a few hints that with titles like Cadence of Hyrule doing so well, some Indie studios may be working on dormant Nintendo IP's to revive older NES era franchises that have not seen an entry in a LONG time. Balloon Fighter, Star Tropics, and Lolo have all been mentioned in some way or another. A Wario title (Land or Ware) or F-Zero is also something that keeps popping up that may now be in the hands of a studio outside Nintendo.

I understand that, but that still doesn't mean that someone is going to start working on a new F-Zero or Star Fox. F-Zero has been gone for too long for them to have a major interest in, barring some stupidly high number of fans or someone petitioning, and Star Fox Zero's critical reception and sales were lackluster.

The lackluster came from the stupid controls and gimmicks Miyamoto shoehorned in, but companies never pay attention to the details. They see bad sales and conclude that there's 0 interest in the game itself, not simply 0 interest in a BAD version of the game, so they shelf the franchise.

The damage has already been done for things I want to see. This "process" should have been "started" after the Wii-U tanked. I'll give Miyamoto credit for his ideas on Splatoon, but I'd rather have Star Fox and F-Zero than Splatoon.

I think in Star Fox's case, Ubisoft did a great job in using those assets for Starlink. There is enough there for an outside team, probably even Ubisoft themselves, to attempt a new Star Fox title and have it stick. Star Fox Grand Prix, even being a rumor at best, still generated a lot of attention for being a side-genre title. Theres a lot of hope there.

F-Zero as we know it may honestly be more something simply doesn't make financial sense than lack of ideas - the kart genre kind of ate all that up. I think the best avenue for something to get new life is to Golf Story the whole F-Zero experience, use the Smash canon for the F-Zero series, and build something different up around that instead of just revisiting fast tracks with a cool skin and exciting music.

It still boggles my mind that Nintendo didn't make a second season of DLC for Mario Kart, one of the best selling games ever. Its free goddamn money and I KNOW you have the staff for it!

Mario Kart could have been the Smash Bros of kart racing.

They probably weighed the benefit of more DLC vs a whole new entry and decided to just have a late lifecycle MK9 entry.

Edit: Or a perfect launch title for Switch Pro!

Indie World Edit: Goose Game Update for 2 player co-op! Thats about it.

Raji looks like it could be good. Though it depends on how good the action is. Which the trailer really lacked on.

Manifold Garden looks pretty good too.

We've been playing Diablo 3 with wife. Switch version is rather solid.

Frame rate shits the bed far more often then other versions, but D3 is a jolly good time on Switch.

I'd say Mario Kart, but doubt you want to break up with her.

Even more surprising there was 0 DLC for Mario Party.

If you shit talk heavily with Smash, you'll probably be yelling at each other with Overcooked 2.

I'd say co-op something more easy-going like a platformer if you want a perhaps less stressful experience.
