Yes, don't get me wrong, I definitely think there are a lot of racists in the republican party. I am just not willing to buy into the rhetoric that if you voted for trump that automatically means you're racist and support his racist policies etc. He had a lot of other non-racist things that the candidates weren't talking about. ie. the whole "drain the swamp" stuff.


And again, that could mean they were willfully ignorant, stupid, etc. etc. just not necessarily racist.

The whole isreal stuff was also a big thing for a lot of the christian right, too. Which I would say other repub candidates seemed to shy away from doing anything big.

If they weren't prepared to own their decision and its consequences they shouldn't have voted for him.

Echoing something I said before: I don't care what's in their hearts, they voted for a racist candidate promising to do racist things, if they didn't want to be judged for it they should have taken the L and tried again next time.

i mean it wasn't very long ago Democrats and liberals alike rallied around the flag of a misogynistic serial sexual predator and i'm sure a hell of a lot of that calculation was, at least he's better than Bush / Gingrich / Dole. doesn't make every person who voted for him sexist. not every person who voted for FDR hated the Japaneses, not everyone who voted for Johnson wanted to blow up some Vietnamese, etc etc. i concur entirely that there is a level of responsibility, you own your actions and if you enable or tolerate evil you are in some capacity responsible for that evil. i just don't think it defines your character in toto. you can be Faust without being Lucifer.
