The thing about Roseanne's show is that after her racist tweet she was facing a mutiny - the head writer Wanda Sykes quit, the actress playing her granddaughter called her agent to quit, who knows how many others would have. To keep the show going they would have needed to re-cast major parts and overhaul it.

ABC didn't end up having much choice. If Samantha Bee's show starts bleeding talent, TBS would probably do the same.
