Legitimately I can't see that as an evidence of malpractice. The GamerGate controvosy blew up in August 2014 and like controversy that happened it'll get reported on and will likely have the same relevant details (Unless an outlet like the aforementioned polygon leaves out big bits like unfair word policing in the Discord v r/ffxiv drama happening right now. YIKES) with mixed opinions. Then it resurfaced again in October that year when shit hit the fan again.
Like you're assuming that these guys don't talk to other people in the same industry and don't get mad because they're literally starting campaigns to starve them of revenue.

White duder in Ohio gets "cut off" by a black duder, follows the black duder home and starts lecturing him on how much of a N- he is. Black duder explains traffic laws while white duder continues to be from Ohio. Standard racism, whatever. However, white duder is a state contractor, in his work van, which has his license number and phone number on it. Again, standard racism, duder probably will release some super sorry apology and lose some business but ultimately recover...

Except still no because he went full Ohio. They sent a reporter out to talk to him. He claimed that it's the language he grew up with and that it's not a big deal to him. Reporter replies "It was a big deal to the man you said it to" "Well so was getting cut off". He said this to the reporter. The reporter was also black.
Never go full Ohio.
I guess I'm glad I never took that job offer that wanted to me to relocate to Ohio
