Lead from gasoline blunted the IQ of about half the U.S. population, study sayshttps://www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...tudy-rcna19028Exposure to leaded gasoline lowered the IQ of about half the population of the United States, a new study estimates.
The peer-reviewed study, published Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, focuses on people born before 1996 — the year the U.S. banned gas containing lead.
Overall, the researchers from Florida State University and Duke University found, childhood lead exposure cost America an estimated 824 million points, or 2.6 points per person on average.
Certain cohorts were more affected than others. For people born in the 1960s and the 1970s, when leaded gas consumption was skyrocketing, the IQ loss was estimated to be up to 6 points and for some, more than 7 points. Exposure to it came primarily from inhaling auto exhaust.
Well that would fucking explain a few things.
No wonder Americans voted for Ronald Regan.

An environmental tragedy to be sure and a convenient cudgel for either political side, but it the distribution of exposure (mostly urban, non-sunbelt) doesn't really line up with culturally observed modern stupidity (Florida, Arizona, rural areas).
I'd say it lines up fairly well. It's a combo of the affected raising their young under their beliefs while the older have moved, if able, to noted retirement destinations and the pursuers of their money basically playing along.
Where I am while growing up, it wasn't uncommon for people to have "project cars" that sat in the garages for years while they worked on them, and it was typically a "tradition" they picked up from their parents (which basically would've run the 60-80's year range). It wouldn't be uncommon hearing a car constantly be turned on and off, revved to show off to friends, or just generally being in that largely enclosed space for long periods. Some maybe just did it for fun, while others maybe looked at it as something to pass on to a son when they were old enough.
I'd probably say the 80's were also when auto shop classes started getting phased out of a lot of school programs.
Not that I'll say unleaded gas is the sole reason people are sus, especially with the decline of our education quality and focus alongside largely unfettered internet slop. It just feels like another rusty nail in the coffin.
Lead was also in a lot of other things than fuel.
So.. a friday?
That’s hilarious lol, just as he was speaking of the danger.
Clearly he's a Jedi.
Hit n run.

Modern Jetliners, or lets say, modern aircraft of any kind don't simply fall out of cruise altitude like this. 737 isn't prone to deep stall as well. Possible explanations of "falling out of sky" could be the jamming of controls, decompression, structural damage on control surfaces (mainly wings, vertical stabilizer or elevator) mid air collision or a suicide. Post Germanwings no pilot can be in the cockpit by himself at any time so suicide is quite unlikely. Its not a collision either.
The aircraft is only 7 years old so metal fatigue is unlikely as well. 737-800 NG, despite the strong negative MAX related issues recently, is a very safe aircraft.
Its a real puzzling case. An extremely sad one though, the aircraft appears to have hit the ground at a velocity close to the speed of sound.
That had to be a terrifying couple minutes for the passengers
This photo is trending on Twitter and it appears to be real. The question only appears if you're traveling to the U.S. It's also on the web application to apply for a VISA to the U.S.
Some Londoners have learned the hard way what happens when clicking yes.
