I feel like that and the Chicago one with someone running into something on the tarmac are actually pretty common. Crashes have def spiked news coverage of every single incident involving planes at all, much like the train derailment meant the public eye was on trains for a couple months before people stopped caring again lol

    From CNN article:

A flight attendant can be heard in the video asking for passengers to stay in their seats.

“No, it’s on fire!” one passenger replies.
This is a very inappropriate passenger behavior. Evacuation decision solely lies with the cockpit and before deciding to do so we have to follow checklists/memory items, which shuts down the engine (evacuation with engines running is a big no) and attempt to extinguish the fire via rather effective extinguishing systems. If fire can be extinguished deplaning rather than evacuation is preferred. While fire of any sort is an emergency, engine failure, fire or severe damage are usually isolated to the engine and rarely cause an issue. On the other hand the possiblity of a panicked passenger initiated evacuation? Now that is a serious emergency. Unnecessary and improper evacuation? Usually ends with fractures, injuries which can be life threatening especially on the elderly.

Even if an evacuation decision is made we have to ensure the speedbrakes are down and flaps are in a position that’ll support evacuation. And it should be coordinated by the crew. Looking at the videos I see lots of carry on baggages on the runway, ffs the airline will return them to you a day after latest.

If I was on a flight and we hit a little turbulence or something and someone yelled out, "The plane is crashing!" and people started to freak out..

I think I would get up and punch that person right in the face.

They did it in Airplane, so that's obviously the best course of action.

Current conspiracy involving the DC crash is that the military is scrubbing the internet of the Blackhawk's pilot because it was a female.
They haven't been vocal about the pilot because her family choose not to have her information released.

Yeah, I can understand the family being sensitive on the issue with all the diversity discussion going on.

I've flown with female pilots with military background and they were no less capable in any aspect. Usually have even better crew resource management....but go tell this to the internet.

ngl the immediate reaction to these tragedies being baseless 'it must be a woman's or a minority's fault because they were promoted to a position of responsibility despite being incompetent' is not super chill. we are in a chill-less environment, if you will.

When the Suez Canal crash happened and it came out the captain was female it led to a lot of shitpost memes but I looked on those as harmless fun, I have a feeling they would be decidedly less light hearted this time

While I personally wish we lived in a world where women weren't on the front lines, I defend their right to do so and recognize their skill (and sometimes their sacrifice). My mom was a marine and I would never defame a woman in uniform and insinuate that she couldn't do the job.

RIP Tamara Long. I never knew you but thank you for your sacrifice in a post 9/11 world. You kept me safe.

Up in Alaska. A Bering Air Cessna has gone missing. It was carring 10 people on board.

The US Coast Guard and US Air Force are now searching for the plane.

When the first two crashes happened, I initially thought it was unfair to blame Trump so early in his administration. Most policy changes take months or even years to have a measurable impact on large systems. However, considering we went over 15 years without a major crash, and now we’ve experienced six, I’m starting to think placing blame is justified. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but the pattern is becoming hard to ignore

Been rainy and shitty today all day, actually used to live overlooking that area and would have seen this go down if I was still there lol

I mean we have plane crashes of small aircraft not often but it happens throughout the years, same with helicopters and military craft but i'm trying to look up a database to check against and can't find shit because Google is garbage and it's AI just telling me info for 2019 and 2020 lol... I don't think the recent ones though are due to anything Trump has done because shit moves too slowly for that to have happened, I think it's a product of Boeing being shit, jamming too much shit into airports and not hiring ATCs and a ton of other issues all slowly coming to a head.

Replace the year number to look at more. It lists worldwide incidents.

I'm always hesitant to point to policy changes for military crashes. The majority of them are usually classified as pilot error, and even then, that's kinda vague and doesn't always mean the pilot is 100% at fault. When I was on active duty, my unit crashed 3 Harriers (almost a 4th), and aside from one of them, they were deemed varying degrees of pilot error for the cause. None of the pilots were rookie pilots, and they were all pasty white dudes, so no DEI to try and blame either. All of them were cleared to fly again after the investigations were completed though.
