I still have my bought license for windows 10. Also one of those plebs that created a microsoft account, so should be easy for me to just keep using the same key/license every time I rebuild now.

I just found out I did get it for free years ago. Guess I am grandfathered into the license as well with my MS account lol

Pretty sure you can just use Rufus to bypass whatever restriction is preventing you from upgrading, unless it's a TPM thing at which point you probably just need to update the mobi firmware.

yeah, that's a little too old unfortunately. If your motherboard supports it, you can probably just get a ryzen 5 3600 and you'll be set. Just make sure your bios is updated first using the old cpu before dropping the new one in.

Yeah, looks like the Ryzen 5 5600 or 3600 would be the best bet.

We had Windows XP systems up until about 4-5yrs ago on some missions, granted you can't update certain things such as flight sims when the spacecraft is still in space cuz there's no way to update the spacecraft itself so you gotta airgap that shit and pray. That said flight sims and other shit shouldn't be getting written for Windows anyways...fucking hell. I mean even some of the Linux shit we use is written in such a way that 30 ppl need to share a single account because it only operates from a terminal interface IN FUCKING TWENTY TWENTY FIVE.

Shit drives me up the wall and I know hospitals, airlines and other shit isn't any better. Hell our entire tax system still runs on COBAL I believe and the Library of Congress system was written on FORTRAN and never modified too.

Pretty sure the US unemployment database in every state runs on COBOL as well. I remember hearing about every state in a panic to hire people who knew COBOL when COVID hit.

Which made sense, having to learn COBOL my sophomore year was so awful it made me change majors.

I have a 75 year old relative who knows COBOL and works as a contractor like 3 months a year to cover her expenses.

I remember attending a DEFCON presentation either last year or year before about the hack of Georgia's state run systems. They had some Win XP and 7 shit in there and got ransomwared super easily. Had to pay out millions in bitcoin to unlock their shit and I would bet everything I own that they haven't updated shit since

My linux professor in college worked for the Library of Congress and would tell us about how some random engineer had written FORTRAN code no one knew how to work and couldn't rewrite, so they would hire him on as a consultant and pay him shit loads of money after he retired. Somehow they never did a code review before with his stuff, nor figured it would be cost effective to refactor it all instead of paying him shit loads of money again and again every year.

Here's one.. Knoxville to Atlanta. First flight. Idk what time was before the sun came up. Then Altana > Dallas. 2 hour layover. Then Dallas > Denver. After that I rode (wasn't driving) in a rental car to Colorado Springs. It was in the middle of the night when we got to our hotel.

I felt like I was going to throw up.

Few years ago I had a layover in ATL to get to Vegas for conference, huge storm hit and plane was delayed docking due to another in its place. Was a southwest flight and connecting flight was southwest, yet they just took off and sold my seats on the Vegas connector so I ended up having to stay the night in ATL and then fly from ATL to Detroit to LAX to Vegas the next morning....super fun!
