My coworkers husband works for Spirit Airlines, this is going to be rough on them I imagine.. which sucks cause she's such a wonderfully nice person, really the only person I vibe with at work.

I have never flown Spirit before but I have heard bad things. Like, "one of the worst travel experiences I've ever had!" bad.

I flew them once. A lot of the problems people have are self inflicted, as having them do anything triggers a fee.

That said, customer service if your flight gets cancelled is nasty, and their allowed size carry on bag/personal item is smaller than most other airlines.

If you do your research though, have your boarding passes printed out before you arrive, and you're flying with nothing more than a backpack with clothes, you're fine and not going to beat the rates.

But if you need checked bags, plus carry on luggage, etc. it isn't much cheaper than jet blue or southwest

You don’t fly Spirit for the experience, you fly it to get from point A to point B as cheaply as possible. It reminds me of renting a car a few years back when I found a deal that was a third of the price of everywhere else. It wasn’t even at the airport rental center. You had to take a bus to the rental center, then wait for a van that only came once an hour to bring you from the rental center to their rundown-looking apartment building. It took nearly 40 minutes after arriving just to get the car. But it was $17 a day, so you deal with it.

yeah I will miss Spirit. melena put it well, you could really beat the prices if you submitted to their bullshit and brought minimal luggage. which was always fine by me.

Ironically, my one flight on spirit was cursed, but not due to them.

Flight home unfortunately had a cranky baby who was not having it and let the entire plane know

The next morning, I'm taking the garbage out and I see the dad and the baby walking up the stairs at our apartment complex.

Now I know how that guy in the twilight zone feels when the slot machine is chasing him down.
