Eternals (November 5, 2021)

My largest issue with the movie is how

They've completely changed the Deviant/Eternal lore, and while doing so, seemingly completely changed Thanos' lore. Since Eternals are now robots, that would mean Eternals can't procreate. Which begs the question how Eros and Thanos can be brothers. It also means Thanos can't possibly be a Deviant, but have to be a full-on Eternal, which changes his entire backstory about his mother attempting to kill him due to being born a Deviant.

There was a line at the beginning about how 5 of the Eternals were made to fight Deviants (Ikaris, Thena, Gilgamesh, Kingo, and Makkari) and the other 5 ( Ajak, Sersi, Sprite, Druig, and Phaestos) were non-combative and more there to help mankind advance.

Actually that's why I take issue with a complaint I have seen:

"but why were they helping mankind advance if they weren't supposed to interfere??" No. They specifically say they don't interfere in mankind's conflicts. And the reason why is a major plot point. Helping them advance technologically at a fast - but not too fast pace is a huge part of their mission. Tiamut needs time to gestate, and humans need technology if they're going to procreate at the rate needed.

Anyway, we see Sersi turning dirt into water to help with crops, stone into bronze - she wasn't made to fight Deviants so it makes sense she wouldn't be the best at it.

Oh i must've been lost on that. idk, still i would think after thousands of years she would have figured out a clever way to use her powers. maybe im nitpicky.

Oh i had no clue Thanos was involved in that. I figured he was just some alien. That being said, the robots can still bleed, i think you can handwave it and say they're magical robots that can procreate

Ya....also I don't think the way they handled the "why externals havent done anything" was very good. I've only ever read the Neil Gaiman run of Eternals from 2006, but I would think that would be the story you'd want to adapt if you want to excuse that? In that story most of the Eternals had no idea they were Eternals and were living human lives.

She is, her dad is a character that isn't seen in the movie, Zuras, and his brother A'lars is Thanos and Eros's father.

So if Thanos is an Eternal, and knew what their agenda is, does that mean that when he wanted to halve the population of the universe, his ultimate goal wasn't just to increase the relative amount of resources for everyone, but to also delay the gestation of the Celestials?

RT can get fucked. It definitely doesn't deserve the worst rating. Much better than Thor 2, Iron Man 3 and Black Widow. Not top tier, but not bad. It felt like a preview of what the MCU can do with the X-Men. It wasn't heavy on action, but the scenes with them using their powers were pretty good.

I agree the deviants should've been more intimidating. Even the one that absorbed Ajak and Gilgamesh's powers was pretty boring to me. Jolie felt like a background character which surprised me. I know that MCU budget is big enough to afford her and Hayek. Ikaris flying in to the sun was the biggest "wut" moment, but yeah. I enjoyed the characters enough to look forward the next movie. Seems they'll have their own story rather than interacting with the rest of the MCU heroes. Got pretty hype once I googled the post credits scene and found out who that off screen voice was!

I mean, given his name and the lore that coincides with it, how is that a shock? lol

I agree though for the most part (I really like Black Widow, but I also see it as Yelena’s origin story rather than a send off for BW). It was damn solid with a lot of potential given the story arcs and cast.

It’s about middle of the pack for me MCU wise, but I feel like that’s because so little time was able to be spent on the characters individually. Looking forward to everything that ties in to it.

Well I watched it now that it’s on Disney+. I don’t think it was terrible but definitely my least favorite marvel movie in a long time. People are crazy though if they think it’s worse than Thor: Dark World. It’s gotta be offensively bad to be worse than that one.
