dude, i'm in the middle of a shift in my D&D group and it's stressing me out

basically, we played with 4+DM for awhile (Me DM) after getting rid of someone and moving from the game shop to the lounge in my building.

two of the players are a couple and their son is basically causing them to have to reschedule and be late and their engagement level is already the lowest of all the players. they are still newbies after 2+ years and don't learn/develop anything and have like 10 second backstories. any of those things separately would be chill but roll em all up and it's too much.

my other 3 (Now 4 with a new addition) are by contrast, constantly engaged. We're playing Delta Green right now because I needed a month or two off of DMing because of travel/other shit. We have email chains that are updated every day with banter/jokes/game ideas/character creation. The other two have responded to maybe like... 2 emails? in the last month. I get that they are busy but they're also now unable to show up on time (Can't get there til 8, we start at 7), their son has fucking hockey or some other thing every week and the husband travels for contract programming work.

it's really sad because i know they like D&D but they just follow along and don't say much. I feel like they'd enjoy watching more.

Anyway, I talked with the dude running Delta Green who's recruited 2 of our new players and I tihnk we're gonna "end" the campaign soonish and then just keep playing without them.

Meh.

thats rough man

my fiancee and i do pathfinder on wednesdays with some friends and we got around the childcare needs of group members by having it at their house... but the child in question is like 2 now so he basically hangs out while we shoot the shit waiting for stragglers and eating, then when he goes to bed we play.

but one of our players is about to start playing remotely cos he got a job and moved like 2 hours away, so it's been a struggle for him to make it to our normal times. so that'll be interesting.

anyway sounds like you got some good players tho. thats good. nice core to build around.

yeah, the new core group is p great. got an aussie chick, 2 funny dudes, and 2 "newbies". They aren't new to TTRPG's, just to the 5E system.
