Season 3 so far has fixed all the issues I had with character arcs, and they def upped the budget on how magic looks too.

Season 3 episode 1, like only after the first scene is where I stopped before work:
    Spoiler: show
I knew this show would not handle the Black Ajah anything like the books. Keeping everything secret for so long probably would have been too subtle and time-consuming, but boy does this whole trial thing make Siuan seem a bit incompetent. Like, maybe do a bit more planning before calling them out.

its understandable if you don't think half the tower is black ajah

siuan went into the docs office to figure out why she was tired all the time, then walked out with a stage 4 cancer diagnosis

So...this dumpster fire got better? I couldn't make it past S1 episode 4 I think. The S3 trailers looked...much better. You guys seem to dig it and I'm trying to not dwell on the book/show changes. Should I give this another chance?

Season 3 has been quite good, and Season 2 was already a step up from the first.

Take it for what it's worth but the season so far is sitting at a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes

And absolutely do not compare it to the book. They change so much.

Halfway through episode 4 of season 3. I think my biggest complaint I have that’s still lingering through this season, and maybe I’m just cherry picking, but this show seems to be afraid to have any mystery to it. The knife in the grey man is like the only thing I can think of where they don’t just cut to people revealing their schemes (to the audience.)

Edit: BUT I do understand this show is moving crazy fast and I understand that requires some sacrifices. I’m just glad they managed to cut out a lot of the Rand love interest stuff.

Finished episode 5. All caught up now waiting for the weekly release like you other shmucks. I’m confused about one thing though that happened last episode, some of it because I don’t remember some Aes Sedai oaths:
    Spoiler: show
When Smoker’s Voice Aes Sedai was in the cell with the two Black Ajah: she attacked them unprovoked, those they know are dark friends can be attacked, correct? So this isn’t confirmation she’s made a pact with the dark, correct? If I remember correctly from the books her character wasn’t black ajah. Regardless, what did Siuan see before they came? Does she see she killed one and was torturing the other? Does she think the grey man killed them both? Why did it seem like it was some sort of revolution that there was at least 1 still left behind when they already figured that out?

Question about the books since I haven't read them.

    Spoiler: show
Is Rand the Dragon reborn? I haven't watched season 3 yet (just rewatched season 2 and am starting 3). I keep having the nagging feeling it's one of the others from the Three Rivers. Please don't say who it is if it is someone else.

Buffy, you can check this spoiler. Anyone else who’s trying to stay clean of spoilers in any possible way, stay off.
    Spoiler: show
short answer, yes, he is. The book spent a much longer time and made it a bigger mystery who exactly the Dragon Reborn was, which is probably why the show kept it slightly less than 100% concrete. After that mystery is solved in the books it kind of shifts to Will he do more harm than good, as that has also always been up in the air.

Surprised they gave this whole entire episode to Perrin. Not saying it wasn’t needed or that it was bad, I’m just surprised it’s something the producers allowed.

half of book 4 was the perrin going home story. it's just kinda what the source material requires

    Spoiler: show
loial dying might be the biggest departure from the books so far, unless there's some wacky way he survives falling in the ways

How the heck did they make it to season 2 without revealing which one is The Dragon? Isn't that revealed at the end of Book 1?

it was revealed at the end of season 1 just like in the books

i guess it's just less obvious to a pure show watcher because his battle with the fake dark one wasn't fought in the sky for everyone to witness like in the books

the show doesn't do a great job of explaining or emphasizing the prophecies of the dragon to the viewer

Specifically I had doubts/questions because all of the Three Rivers ensemble was on top of the tower when Moraine did her fire dragon shit at the end of season 2, so I was wondering if there was another angle there.

in s1 we were shown a flashback scene of rand being born on dragonmount during the aiel war. his mother died giving birth to him and then he was taken in by tam al'thor

in s2 we were shown a flashback scene of an old aes sedia who told a prophecy about the dragon reborn to siuan and moraine, who then died in front of them. that prophecy was that the dragon reborn was being born at that exact moment on dragonmount, by an aiel, raised by someone of manetheren blood (two rivers)

from that moment the audience is supposed to know for certain that rand is the dragon reborn, but like i said the show doesn't do a great job of explaining or emphasizing any of the prophecies of the dragon to the audience

in s3e1 you'll casually hear the name callandor, but will receive absolutely no further explanation of what that is or it's significance to the story

to my memory those two never hooked up in the books

without going into spoilers, that relationship can make perfect sense if you think about the customs of the other person... as long as it doesn't fuck up a rather important plot in the future it's fine

There is a very weird dynamic between Rand's multiple love interests that isn't overtly sexual, but is used to just kind of get away with the polyamory.

Episode 7 was quite excellent, although I didn't anticipate the gate outcome.

I definitely am hoping for a renewal, they seem to have really gotten into a good story telling stride and it seems like the budget was increased this year. Again, episode 7 was excellent - including the music which is the first time I was like "this music is great".

I also like the girl hanging around Perrin, shes good for him.
