JP announced they'll be releasing new 5* versions of old 3* units that were included at launch. First up is a 5* Golbez. Guess there's hope for all the main series characters that got the short end of the stick.

"Oh shit, guys. We just killed like 95% of our character pool with 7* content. Quick, let's make everyone buy again with 5* versions of all those characters instead of just expanding the 7* system so everyone could be fucking useful!"

Yeah, they upgraded a bunch of units to 6* over time, making whole new versions to get 7*s for older units is pretty blatant.

Well, might make them actually useful? But yah I wonder if this wasn’t the plan from the get go, a lot of iconic FF characters and villains are all used up on useless 3*/4* units, so remaking them as 5* is welcome because some fan favorites could become useful now.

But i do see how it’s really... cash-grabby? I’d personally prefer reworked 5-7* units than a “7*” 3 Star unit who will likely he as useless as “6*” 3* base units.

If it follows the Brave Frontier model, apparently, after enough time eventually 4* bases will get 7* upgrades as well, but then they'll introduce 6* bases that go up to 8*.

blarg power creep damn you. I know it’s an Inevitability with these types of games but I don’t wanna think about that. Although Etro Knight Lightning coming up as our first 6* Base?!

And alongside Golbez they're getting the four elemental fiends.... except Barbariccia and Rubicante swapped rarities so the rainbow unit is Rubicante. This means entirely new kits for all of them so it'll be interesting to see how they handle this in GL eventually.

Hmmm a type step up banner with a 2k discount on the first 10+1 pull. Might do a first round for the tank/magic and possibly the heals/buffer banner.

Even though they only show 3 units per banner, due to the wording (and by JP), it's most likely many more units per banner.

Probably 3 per banner but check the unit pool before going hard on it.

I kind of figured they'd be kicking things off with a step up when they dropped the bundles last week for lapis instead of cash. At least this time it looks like all three banners are available the whole week. I hope that doesn't mean we have another week of Just Cause being the banner on the 1/2 off and free pulls.

Hmmm great lapis per 5* ratios but only being able to cut the pool by 1/3 when choosing is kind of bleh

I don't mind so much since almost all of what I want will be under one banner, but it still leaves me with no Aranea or Prompto to dump these moogles I've saved on.
