Only issue with that is you're then stuck with a blue quest indicator permanently glued to the direction of your ship. Having to keep toggling it based on what I'm doing is going to add to any tedium in the long run.
Somewhat similar is being unable to interact with things with the scanner out (doors, lockers), even though its object highlighting has been handy for me. Or being unable to hit the menu shortcut keys (Map, Journal, etc) while within another menu. Just minor UX stuff that could potentially be fixed officially, but who knows since it's Bethesda.

I do appreciate just being able to sell directly from my ships inventory vs. having to make trips back/forth being encumbered to some vendor.

For those of you on 3000/4000 Nvidia cards, force enabling resizable bar in nvidia profile inspector is a big performance boost. I got an average of like 15 fps from turning it on

    Find Starfield in the presets
    Find the section "5"
    select following:
    ReBar feature ENABLED
ReBar options 0x00000001 (Battlefield V, Returnal, Assassin's Creed Valhalla....)
    ReBar size limit 0x0000000040000000 (Battlefield V, F1 2022, F1 2021, Assassin's Creed Valhalla...)
    In top right, set Apply

Edit : the nexusmods based frame generation mod got an update, supposed to fix all the crashing issues.

    Side note I realized -

While building your own ships is cool, prebuilts allow you to use components that require the Starship Design perk that you can't make in the ship builder

you can still use them, you just have to fly the ship to the vendor that sells them (with dummy parts if necessary) after building it in your drydock.

Good to note, since I don't think I'll be aiming for the higher-tier building stuff on this playthrough with all the other options I want at present. Outside of Extractors for resources on the side, I've not dabbled with building much in general. On the building note, do workshop benches/research/outpost building always have access to your ship inventory?

Unrelated to that, but is there a lore reason for why no one has no modern equivalent of a cell phone given the era of tech it the game takes place in? It would have made the pacing of some of these quests better not having to revisit an npc to start the next step.

Outposts are honestly kinda useless I've found.

The investment into them is not worth the return, you're better off just buying whatever resources you need because this game drowns you in money. After 50 hours I've had only one singular point where I didn't have the cash on hand to buy something, and that was because an hour prior I had blown 260k on a new ship.

That second bit I'd just chalk it up to Bethesda-ism. There's a questline in Cydonia (Mars) where every single step of the chain has you go back to the quest giver to update him, even if what you were doing was on another planet.

This has been super stable for me. Small hitches going in and out of menus like the paid one does, but zero crashes from it over like 2 or 3 hours playing.

    Damn Todd relax

anyway the crashing is related to the FrameGen mod itself, it goes without saying that if you aren't modding then you wouldn't be getting the problems introduced by the mod. All of the currently available versions of DLSSG mods are stable for most people now.

I dunno, I'm a hoarder so I've just been using my outposts to hoard all of my loot.

Outposts are useful for delivery quests mostly, such as "Deliver 2000 units of Lead". Sure, you can mine it manually or buy it, or you can have your outpost mine stuff for you and then just deliver it. I do it more for the exp than the money at this point.

In the time it takes (counting the time spent building up the base) to gather that material you could just go to some random planet and clear out a spacer base and make more exp and substantially more money.

On the subject of stability, I have had a small handful of crashes when transitioning between zones (maybe like 4 or 5 in 50ish hours of game time) unrelated to any mods. The FG mods were very unstable for me but the newest one I linked above has been rock solid for me.

Driver update for Nvidia today, looks to fix some of the usage issues the game was having, my GPU is pulling the wattage it should now. They're also pushing an OTA profile update to enable reBAR

Finally got a chance to play it a bit as I've been on vacation. Grabbed the latest Nvidia drivers this morning. Game seemed stable at everything high/ultra on my 3080ti outside of one crash during the space flight tutorial. Only annoying thing is according to Afterburner/Riva Tuner, the damn game is only using half the memory of my 3080ti, which probably explains why I'm sitting at 60-80fps. Though on the plus side, with my undervolt, I topped off at about 70c for temperature on my gpu.

Oh yeah, it also topped out of only using 270w of power. Should be hitting 350w

enabling ReBAR should've been a pretty big uplift for 3xxx cards. 4xxx not as much.

As opposed to every other recent AAA title, Starfield doesn't use much VRAM, I wouldn't be worried about that one.

The game is just very poorly optimized. People who know way more than me have broken down the coding issues with the game, but who knows if Bethesda will ever actually fix it or it'll be up to modders.

I figure unless it's in some pursuit of making a 60fps mode achievable on Series X, they're not going to do much for optimizations. I can't remember the last time they issued a performance update that wasn't Sony going out of their way to help unfuck Skyrim for them so the DLC could be released on it.
