The UI is hard coded at 30 fps (though fixable with mods), they never intended this game to run past that on console and clearly didn't put much effort into scaling the game beyond that for the PC version.

Speaking of the UI and for those that haven't looked at the mods already available

    https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/773

Already far far and away the most endorsed mod

It broke the DLSS mod which is to be expected, but StarUI and LUT mod still working fine without having to redownload anything extra or tweak any ini files

Gonna let it sit until one of the DLSS mods gets fixed though, it looks so much worse with FSR

That roadmap once again proves that bullying works.

Edit : yay frame gen mod on nexus already updated

Akila runs worse than New Atlantis. I can't walk for more than a couple of steps or hold conversations without the FPS dropping to 0. Neon City & Cydonia have posed no issues, though.

Beat the main story, really hope whatever DLC they add actually explains some of the overarching plot threads cause there is a lot left answered.

There's a New Game Plus and it's pretty cool.

Without getting into specifics it's kind of like the NG+ from Dragon Quest XI where you already know what's going to happen so you can change events.

Wut, how does updating a driver require you to redownload the entire game?

Well, not the whole game, just the image files.

swapping back and forth between BG3 and Starfield has been kind of nice, pshew pshewing stuff in space is kind of a palate cleanser after such a deliberately paced combat system

Having put now more than 40 hours into this game... honestly Its hard to see what some people hated so much in it. It plays and feels just like what I expected from a really good Bethesda RPG, with notable upgrades in gunplay from FO4.

I've finished Ryujin's "story", which is basically the Thieves' Guild of the future, and it was quite fun. Scratched a perfect stealth mission itch, and rewards to boot. I've finished the Lonestar Rangers questline which rewarded me with an amazing ship. I finished a storyline about finding a long lost treasure that started with me going to jail over a certain planet because apparently I accidentally brought contraband, that one was a long one and super fun, and holy fuck the reward at the end was worth it, not to mention 2 guns, one a good pistol, and the other a fucking busted Rifle. Also I've already married one of my companions, which was a nice little diversion. Definitely want to explore more companion quests, the few I've done have been relatively good.

My only complaint early on was space battles being annoyingly difficult, the treasure-hunt mission I described above had several extremely difficult space battles, but honestly it didn't take me long to find out they were only so hard because I hadn't been upgrading my ship with new weapons, shields, reactors, engines and so on. Once I upgraded my ship (and later got the new one from the Rangers), space battles have been more fairly balanced and I don't feel like I'm just exploding at every passing fart.

Aside from that, I haven't spent a LOT of time exploring random planets, but If I want to sell some planetary data or hunt down some loot from spacers/Ecliptic, I usually try to find some POIs on habitable planets. I haven't even touched the base-building yet because frankly I don't know how and have been having too much fun with major side missions to stop and learn.

Think the only mods I installed were the StarUI mode to make the menu more readable, and the "Console commands don't disable achievements" cause I seriously needed to add Inventory weight. Inventory weight to mention is heinously limited, but once I upgraded my ships hauling capacity (the Ranger ship I own has over 4k capacity atm), inventory weight became much less of a problem since I could easily store all my extra resources leaving my personal inventory for expensive guns and such.

All in all, seriously enjoying the game, everything I expected and wanted from the next Bethesda title. But maybe I approached it different than most people, I haven't been landing on every planet, though I have spent time exploring some locations to look for a base to start.

Edit: Also, my new ship I got from the Ranger storyline has a brig in it and I regularly find my ship mates sleeping on the mats in the Brig... inside the cells with the doors locked. I have to rescue them.

I think it's just been so long that people kinda over hyped themselves on what a BSG game entails.

Performance issues aside, I'd say my biggest complaint is that the itemization is kinda boring. When a random white weapon that just happened to drop as advanced or refined beats out every unique weapon available in the game world it's kinda whack.

I always want more Elder Scrolls-like progression where doing actions earn you skill. It's fine that it's more like Fallout. The space battles suck and they're the only activities I feel compelled to put on God mode. My flying skills are jack. Base building sucks compared to Fallout and feel pointless. It is a lot of fun to explore, though.

Honestly, my two biggest gripes was encumbrance and the UI.

I may wait for a steam sale once mods come out (was playing on PC Game pass, so can't change shit) and see if that adjusts my enjoyment of the game.

i'm enjoying it just fine for what it is as well. Bethesda has never made games with leading edge gameplay or writing, always been more workmanlike and oriented around wide worlds to explore and characters built however you like and dope expansive lore and changing the world around you. lot of ways Starfield improves significantly on their traditionally weak gameplay + writing, though the world exploration stuff is a step down from a Skyrim or some.

still it's enjoyable, it's fun, a solid cheeseburger after BG3's sous vide filet mignon and TotK's lobster tartare.

The later main story missions like Entangled and Unearthed are spectacular bits of storytelling well beyond what Bethesda usually spits out

I’m surprised to hear about performance issues. My computer is approaching a decade old at this point rocking I think an 1060 graphics card and I haven’t hit shit as far as performance issues. I occasionally have a little fps drops in cities like Akila but it’s likely because again, my computer is approaching 10 years old and I’m running it on high settings.

As for the itemization, most of the unique guns I’ve run across have been really good. I get the occasional stinker orange item as a random drop, but the actually named orange uniques I’ve got from stories or factions have been extremely good, and there’s one I only stop using when I run out of ammo, cause it melts.

Maybe I should play with more whites but so far every gun I have on my hit bar is a modified blue or higher, with the exception of two Ranger weapons I got from that faction, and I’ve not run into any battles yet where my guns felt inadequate to take out the enemies. But I can kinda see where that complaint is coming from.

As for space battles, they’re not my favorite part of the game but I can’t think of anything I’d do to improve them, not that there isn’t anything, I’m just blocked on ideas.

I use a PC from 2019 that exceeds them minimum requirements and I've well documented in this thread the issues I've had. The game doesn't appear to be optimized for any one rig and people with no issues without using mods seem to be unicorns.

I also have a few mods installed, but just StarUI, Console+Achievements, and I think thats it.

Glad I'm lucky, I'm never lucky.
