The Skyrim and Fallout UIs were never this bad or even close. Going into a menu to find another menu that is just more menus is fucking stupid

    Ok that's true.

Having to open your inventory and then open the cargo hold and then open your inventory again to store items is very dumb.

minor issues like that don't really bother my enjoyment of a game but both this game and BG3 having truly horrible inventory systems has made me ponder just how difficult it is to code an inventory system

also yes fr on desire for a mako. i imagine land vehicles will be thrown into an expansion but their absence is presently painful

i have to imagine the reason there's no vehicles is because of how awful the creation engine is at handling vehicle physics. people have tried to add them to fallout before and it was a disaster

im hoping someone can figure it out this time. id take a fucking space horse.

It's arguably one of the easier aspects of coding. Where it gets complicated is just how much additional detail you show to the player and perhaps when that information is chosen to load (opening inventory vs. highlighting a specific item). I suppose where most devs fail is simply with the UI elements unless they choose to specifically keep inventories small for "immersion purposes" a la Diablo 4 bullshit. But things like lists, grids, pages, and sorting options are something an entry level coder should learn early on.

I'm sad that the carryweight command disables achievements. I know there is a mod to re-enable them, but blah.

Using the console command to cheat disables achievements, who would have thought

In his defense carry weight limits are archaic and annoying as hell

wouldn't say archaic, more a design philosophy. JRPGs dispensed with them from the jump while CRPGs largely embraced them as both genres were coming to life in the 90s. like most systems feel their implementation is the most critical thing. creates a smol series of semi-interesting choices of prioritizing items rather than pack muling everything, and a D&D-esque gameplay loop of going back to civilization to offload, sell, rest, train, equip, before heading back to adventure.

that said think i'd kill myself if something like FF had weight/inventory limits (beyond x99). for BG3 and Starfield think it works well enough, maybe especially Starfield because it becomes a matter of upgrading ship capacity + creating storage/distribution/manufacturing centers in your outposts.

I don't know how it is in Starfield cuz I havent started it yet but I was basing my comment based on Fallout/Skyrim. Hate it in those games

Hold up, y'all paid cash money for this game instead of waiting for it on game pass?

I don't have an active game pass subscription and I would be getting this game on steam anyways for easier modding.

i only play on game pass if I have to. the way Microsoft handles its DRM is so annoying, can't even delete or change the location of the game pass folders after theyve been made.

i'm balls deep in the Crimson Fleet faction progression atm, got a full crew, bought my second ship, unlocked space shouts, got 5 million side quests open, and am really starting to feel the game. base and ship building consuming a lot of hours and the combat is easily the best Bethesda has ever done (not a high bar). beginning is hella slow and there's a lot of annoying design choices but this a good game (no offense Todd). easily their best since Skyrim imo. kinda makes me wanna go back and replay that too, reminding me of Bethesda at their best.

also same as Qal just hit the upgrade

Imagine my surprise when I went to download this and play and saw that it was still locked for game pass.

My jaw dropped when I realized how many of y'all were talking about it lol.

I'm waiting for game pass release. It's only 2 more days so it's not bad. I'll buy the game/premium edition later if I enjoy the game a lot.

Modders working fast as fuck with this game.

Script Extender mod is already out (only works on the steam version) and UI mods in the works.

It's the simple bugs that always make Bethesda games so fun. One I keep getting is the game deciding that for whatever reason I don't need to be wearing a space suit in this area, so I'm just wandering around the surface of Mars in street clothes.
