Random Fail FWP Thread 2: Something, Something, Your Mother's a Whore.

Came into work and heard two co workers ( one on my team another on the other night shift) go their call for starting their promotions. We all took the same test and interviews so have been waiting since last March , got our last calls in October for the official backgrounds.

Of course they all asked me if I got my call, I haven't. But trying to rationalize that they can't decimate our teams too much as we do require a certain amount of people to cover and this is the first round. Also those confirmed did have slightly higher scores than me. At least there will be overtime come March 8th so yay..?

It's not too uncommon for government to somewhat stagger promotions being official and it is generally done by scores

I got a subordinate who’s working on a mission to South America. He casually asked for some help on Monday to translate a few things here and there of what the hosting government was asking for that was in Spanish. No problem at all. Glad to do it.

Dude now has been in my office what feels like every other half hour asking me to help since then. Had to finally tell him to use the damn translator hotline. He’s a great soldier but the shit was annoying.

I have been so exhausted lately. Somehow shut off my alarm subconsciously, slept in an extra 2 hours and popped into work 90 min later than usual (Thank goodness flex time). Told my supervisor that I showed up late, I'm struggling with my energy, and I was bouncing early as soon as my work was done. He didn't even blink and said go for it. Helps that I'm sitting on a mountain of PTO (1 year + 2 months of accrual or thereabouts) and he knows I work my ass off. Ugh I'm just so done for the week.

I absolutely hate the laundry facilities in our complex. First it's just four washers and four dryers for sixty apartments. Secondly people are always overdoing it on the soap, causing the washers to flood. And now two of the dryers are shot and not drying and there was no note or anything, so tossed two loads in, come back 48 minutes later and they are all still soaked.

Our office printer/copy/fax/scanner mega machine gives low toner warning at 20%. I’ve explained this *several* times to people on the sale floor, but some overzealous sales type always wants to replace it immediately because the low toner warning each time they go to print something annoys them. I’ve explained to them in detail they are wasting 1/5 of the toner we pay for by doing this but only get blank stares as a result.

Oh well. Not my money, I guess, but dumb.

Yeah, our staff are under orders that only front reception or I can change the toner, especially after I had someone manage to dump the waste toner box all over the floor and walk away and not tell anyone. And I have reception trained that they don't replace the toner cartridges until the copier will no longer print due to being out of a color.

so seems like my computer shutdown over the weekend. So logged out of everything go to resign in.... and of course boss has changed passwords and doesn't know what he's changed them to. The worst part is also signed me out connection to his computer so can't use QuickBooks at all. And since he doesn't really use that sign in and has changed it oh boy took like 2 hours of fixing things and figuring out how to get back in

Landlords tell us Metronet, an internet supplier, is going to be installing their stuff in every unit. No opting out of it- not forcing me to use metronet, they're just installing the possibility of using it. I'm like, whatever. Just running some wires in the walls, no big deal.

There's a Prop 65 warning on a plastic ice scoop my group just purchased. I'm now going to run around the lab exposing my coworkers to this inert carcinogen. Or maybe fling ice at people. Everyone is wearing PPE that I shouldn't mess with their DNA.

A customer wondered why we wouldn't go a "little" farther than we normally go because we all part of northern California. Had to explain that just northern California is yuge and how she is a good 1-2 hours away from our closest area we operate to her. Even people living here seem to not really get how big the state is and how far away shit is lol

Being left handed sucks. Like, I will forever not understand why parents get all excited if their kid is left handed. Having 11 toes is also unique, but you wouldn’t wish it on your kid, so don’t wish they’re a southpaw either!


I have fine thin hair that is a nightmare to curl and have it last more than ten seconds. Randomly came across a curling iron that apparently works wonders on fine thin hair.


I got all excited and reading reviews confirming this until I got the bad news. Not made for left-handed people. And like apparently it’s a nightmare to even try. Companies response? If one more person at work asks me if I got the call for my promotion like they did I'm going to scream.

I'm already stressed over it and the constant rubbing salt in the wound isn't helping.
On the plus side a co worker offered me her overtime on a holiday so yay double overtime pay.

I've also been hitting the gym hard to combat stress,back to training for a 5k again, tracking my food and losing weight and inches.

Get into work today, get an e-mail from the agency director. A new program director that started last month is having issues with her laptop, and so the agency director just wants me to buy her a new laptop. I still haven't figured out how I'm going to tell her that HP is running a backlog and will probably take 8 weeks minimum. Never mind the fact the laptop that was given to the director is absolutely brand new, less than 2 months old.
