Boss basically outed herself and that every single one of us should be looking for new jobs.

She was yelling at a dude today who was complaining about not wanting to train the new employee because they always have him train people and won't promote him to assistant manager (which is a spot that has been vacant for a few months now when our last one quit).

So she starts screaming at him about how he gets paid more than anyone else on the floor and price drops his pay, which is only 50 cents or less than everyone else; but the guy she was yelling at has been there for 3 years.

She basically just said "If you stick around for 3 years, you can get up to 50 cents added to your pay".

    What a dumbass

Just found out in a zoom meeting today that my work is going to phase out the IT department and move to outsourcing all IT work. I will be laid off in a month or two depending on the transition time.

that's a decision they'll regret. it looks like a nice cost savings until they actually have to deal with any sort of a problem.

We've outsourced our system back in 2008. It has been such a headache, poor system, poor/late support, literraly no flexibility, one-size-fits-all approach...we came at a point where it is us the users finding workarounds through excel and other to keep the system workable. Any change requests faced with huge bills, extremely long implementation time and unsatisfactory results.

After all these lost years the top management decided to form an in-house team again, and develop its own system. Things are much smoother.

Yes, outsourcing IT is very short-sighted. This is coming from someone who works with a friend that does this for a living. There are a few big problems with that shit.

    1. You are now moving to a group of people that change out often, and don't really care about your people. You are now an account.
    2. Now when you have a problem, you are on a waiting list. If you think wait times are long with inhouse, wait until you are behind other companies as well.
    3. Often, IT is about knowing a system. Most companies have simpler systems, but there is a lot of things that can be done to make the lives of workers better. These things will not be sought out by an outside team.
    4. Most outsourced systems you get XXX amount of support, after that, you are going to be overcharged for support. (Think like going over your mins/data on your phone).
    5. If the problem is above a level 1/2 support, you are about to really get hit with a juicy bill.

I said above that I work with a friend that does this stuff. Once or twice a year he will give me a call when his team can't do something or the complexity of a system is a little beyond his team's skill. Anytime I'm called to help, it's 500 for me just to walk into the door, and 200 an hour after that. That cost is just pasted right to the customer.

The only time outsourced IT is a good thing is when you are small enough that you just need basic IT support. Maybe your team needs a file server or help setting up 365/google accounts. The second you need a domain controller (20+ employees) or above, it normally costs less to have inhouse.

Sorry to hear about this for you Zoo, but get your app ready. This COVID thing has only helped most IT people as people are starting to see how important IT is. I'm sure you will be able to find a job quickly with this market. And in a few months with your employer sees how bad things get with outsource and ask you to come back, go for the money.

They'll have a massive security breach three years after they finish outsourcing and everyone will act like it's uncorrelated.

Perhaps I'm particularly unpersuasive, but I've never been able to convince nontechnical people (everyone left in this scenario) about the importance in upgrading IT or security infrastructure without taking over a meeting and driving it home through F2F communication.

It is just going to be a big adjustment. I either have to look for another job that allows me to work remotely or the company that is taking over all IT work for them wants to interview me and potentially hire me to be the main IT person for the business I currently work for.

My biggest hurdle right now is that I am stuck on satellite internet and that inhibits my ability to work from home.

I will really miss working there though. Even through all the minor issues that pop up that you experience at any business with any job the property was great, my office was beautiful, the food was delicious, and there were other aspects of working there that I really enjoyed. Being closed for this many months is really tough on the financials of a non profit though.

There are definitely some nuances of living and running a business in a remote rural area that I imagine will be difficult for an outsource company to handle so it will be interesting to see how this goes down. I hope it works out and doesn't cause major issues.

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. I hope I can find something that is a good fit for me and keeps my family supported.

Curious since my IT team was small I am a jack of all trades doing end user support, meraki support, sonicwall firewall support, physical networking support, apple server support etc. I have been doing this for 5.5 years. What is a fair salary or range based on my experience in California working remotely?

For what its worth I studied video game art and design in school and have 6.5 years of development experience writing scripts and making art before this job.

So, I've been avoiding posting here cause I always manage to put my foot in my mouth but I am just so pissed off at the moment that I have to vent this.

Okay, so when I was going through Chemo, my mother never once shed a single tear. All she did was try to get me to get loans and give her the money cause to her "If you're dead, you don't have to pay them back" because me having cancer forced her to take time off to cope with it so its my duty to help her out financially since i'm so selfish. That alone is pretty fucked up. Then during this last Christmas, my mother said "I wish you had died during cancer". Since then I've done my best to cut all ties with her. For the most part, its worked. I didn't speak or deal with her til about a month ago because of Quarantine but I've kept her at an extreme distance.

20 minutes ago, she texts me like crazy saying its an emergency and I need to call her ASAP. Now, I know her "Emergencies" are usually something I don't care about at all. She calls, I answer, and she's crying her ass off on the phone, telling me that a friend of mine from when I was about 14 had just passed away. Now, that really sucks, he was a good friend, a good father, and all around a good guy. He was not close with my mom in any degree, he knew how crazy she was. My mom is on the phone, crying, like it was a son she actually loved died. She never once tried to talk about any memory of him, just about how his death affected her. How she's been crying so hard that she had to pull over on a highway and has been there for over an hour. Blah blah fucking blah. I despise this woman so much and the day she dies, I will throw the biggest fucking party.

I had a fucking 5% chance of beating my Cancer. At one point, due to a medical error, my stomach had a 96% chance of going NECROTIC. She never once even let out a concerned fart for me and now she's making the death of my friend all about her. Its not even about me. It should be about him. Talk about who he was, retell some funny stories, something but nope, all about her.

I wish I was able to move to another province and cut her out 100%

Yeah man, don't look at her crying as anything but what it was, her sad attempt to bring you back to her so she could get something from you again. She wasn't crying for him, she wasn't crying for what he was to you, it was all to try and get you to talk to her so she could connect with you again, most likely because she needs something.

I've had a few people like this in my life, lucky for me it wasn't my mother, but leeches need to be cut off. Good luck man.

I had to cut my mother out of her life as well. She's an extremely petty cunt and if you're not kissing her ass, you're against her. She cut off ties with her best friend and his husband because they had the audacity to visit my dad in the hospital when he had a heart attack. Never mind that her husband also worked with my dad at the Sheriff's office.

She also got pissy and stopped talking to me when Astylla and I came home from a vacation sick as shit to a box of Christmas gifts that just arrived. She called just as we got in the door and I rushed her off as I was exhausted and Astylla was puking, but still thanked her even though I didn't even open the box yet and she took that as me being ungrateful.

Bitch also didn't even help with the reception dinner for my wedding. My dad picked up the tab for all thirty or so people including her and her boyfriend's dinner, she didn't even offer to cover her own

Tl;Dr it sucks but it's so therapeutic to cut off toxic family.

While certain relationships can be toxic, I can imagine hating someone so close to you could drain your energy and end up hurting you. Its a vicious cylce.

You can't always change people and best you can do is to try not getting affected, and maybe take the higher road, show compassion and love them (or just be polite) nevertheless without expecting anything in return. This is a real power move that will make you feel much, much better.

I understand the Christmas stress. During this last Christmas I was dealing with influenza and pneumonia so I was unable to go there for 7am to open presents(No joke. She wanted me there at 7am). I arrived at 1pm. Everyone else had already opened their gifts and only mine were left. She got my older brother roughly 10,000 dollars in random shit for his new born stupid baby. My little brother got a 10,000 dollar 2 week vacation to Vegas, I got about 500 dollars in random kitchen crap that I didn’t want or need. Like, she got me a Ninja Blender and some griddle thing.(I haven’t had the energy or ability to cook since cancer. She knows this. My meals have consisted of premade shit). And because I wasn’t doing backflips over it, that’s when she said she wished I had died to cancer.

Don't take it personal man. When people are hurt and arguments get heated they feel helpless and just want to hurt you back.

Obviously not a small deal, but save your sanity and try not to dwell too much on it. Months have passed and it is obvious that its draining you mentally.

I pretty much only talk to my uncle. Everyone else is cut off.

Wouldn't have it any other way. Between my brothers I have 10+ nieces/nephews (maybe 11 or 12? idk) I can only name 2 of them

My entire family was toxic outside my late mom and even though she had good intentions usually, she did cater to the toxic people which meant the cycle continued.

I was just discussing this yesterday and the point was made is if blood is the only thing we share , that doesn't make a family.
I have those in my life both from online gaming and other online platforms that have been more of a family to me than anything I've known in my day to day life.

I struggle with depression over it constantly but honestly it was the best choice I ever made , just took me way too long to do it.

The most toxic thing my mother has ever done, on the subject of a friend dying. I used to have this friend, his name was Carl. He had Cystic Fibrosis, had it way worse than me, he spent like 5 months out of the year in hospital for the longest time, til he got his transplant, after that, he was amazingly upbeat and happy. When I was in that coma, he risked his life so he could be by my side incase I died. Carl was a very outgoing kid. The day I met him, we were both in hospital for a "Tune up" as Docs like to call it but really we were just both super sick. Anyways, when I'm in the hospital, I like to sit at the Nursing desk and chat with the Nurses. Carl did the same thing. So, one night, I'm there, talking about movies or some shit, Carl comes over, nurse tells us not to get too close to eachother(CFers have to social distance from eachother all the time). We ended up talking and sharing stories about our lives. That night, we talked, nonstop for about 19 hours straight. He's the one who taught me that no matter how bad our health gets, we should always be greatful for whatever time we have left. I am no where near as strong as him but I do try to live with that in mind. Believe me, I know I'm a huge fuck up

Anyway, the point of that was to explain how much of a friend and brother Carl was to me. When he died due to his lungs rejecting, my mother kept that information hidden from me for over a month. I missed his funeral, I never got to say goodbye. It still breaks my heart when I think about it.(And this is why I kind of always talk about my lungs rejecting. Carl was in peak health. He was much fitter and healthier than me. He did nothing wrong and his body just went "Nope". He got "Acute Rejection". From the time of finding it out, to the time he passed, was 9 days)

Now, this friend that just passed. He was a friend and I have known him for a long time, but we were not as close as I was with Carl. And now she keeps texting/calling me in pure hysteria about this death. She's honestly acting like she just watched her favorite son get shot in the head, point blank. And again, nothing about his memory, what he meant to her/us, nothing. My moms a pretty shitty person but this takes the cake. I had a friend message me last night about stuff shes saying and its like "I don't know what to do now that he's dead. Its affecting me so much. He meant to much to me. I was always there for him. I treated him like my own son", and the list goes on,

Oh Toxic moms roll.... well actually not sure I can call mine that. More just suffering from multiple mental illnesses and long term drug abuse that leads to a lot similar being a terrible human being let alone supposedly a parent. But hey she just disappeared like 22 years ago so no skin off my back. Now step mom... yeah she was just flat out toxic/abusive. Like the stereotype of evil red headed step mom, but she's mellowed in her old age and chronic pain.

Anyways todays fail still having trouble finding some of the vitamins because a lot of suppliers aren't producing it seems. Go to an alternative and see some random yummy looking black bean salsa on sale from my vitamin store. And it gets here today and bottles are busted and leaking. Luckily they got a pretty much no questions asked refund policy but man was really looking forward to it. It even smells pretty good... but yeah not risking that shit. Who knows how long it's been exposed to who knows what kind of air in what kinds of heats.
