So, Nova Scotia just implemented Presumed Consent when it comes to organ donation, province wide. Its made a few news headlines in Canada. A majority of the comments are so badly misinformed, or full of conspiracy theories(If you go to the OR, they'll purposefully kill you to harvest organs.) One person even compared Presumed Consent to rape, and has justified it, repeatedly. Several people even said "If you require a transplant, that's your fault and you deserve to die"

Failed the security answers to get a new social security card; asked a bunch of things that were so long ago I don't remember anything about. Can't even attempt to try again for 24 hrs got locked out.

The new job that wants to take me in requires a social security card for the background check, which I don't have. At this point they're probably going to move on with another applicant if I can't get this card fast enough since they're looking to fill in the position asap

Usually they don't need to see the physical card they just need the number. Don't you remember your number?

Responded in less than 15 minutes if there was a workaround for the card/if the number itself was fine. That was 26 hours ago. No response; and it's the weekend so probably won't get a response until Monday at the earliest (and again a position they're looking to fill asap)

It's usually to verify your identity and for paperwork, but if you tell them you misplaced it and it'll be at least a few weeks til you'll get it, likely they'll just take your number and bring it up another time.

I have, but the lack of response is troubling. Told them I had two out of the three though on hand

If you mean the federal income tax withholding, and not the social security, medicare etc., or state taxes.
With that little, if you file your taxes (Form 1040) you should get that money back. Also with that little, you might qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit, where you get extra money beyond what was withheld.

I know you're on this nihilist apathy kick, but do not fuck around, do your taxes and get your dosh. (that said because of the pandemic, filing may be weirder than usual this year).

Might be if you have some trouble, or wanna be sure, you'll need to lay out some cash to have H&R Block or someone safe do it for you, but it IS worth it.


There's also filing state taxes, but that won't be the same for FL as it is with CA, so can't help you there. It also might not be as worthwhile, depending on how much of a shit your state government is.

There is no state income tax for FL. He just needs to fill out a 1040.

They may consider that dire. I would be hammering their phone line at 9am if possible to get through (Monday is the worst day I found out when I was having to deal with them during the holidays). Just explain you have a job being held up on background check due to losing your social security card and they should be able to help you out.

Will call just not expecting much. and idk what they even require in terms of documentation but the only documentation I have on myself is my ID

You really should have your social and birth certificate locked away. When I got my social reissued as mine was falling apart, I was able to pull it off online by answering the questions. So hopefully they can get you unlocked so you can reorder it

They ask some questions that I simply don't know the answer to and I have to guess. That's why I keep failing lol

You should have called them from the get go, and stop being apprehensive about this. Take a few min and make the call you need to get the better job, even if it means showing up late to the current one. Stop selling yourself short for other people in a shit situation.

Just got off the phone w/ the social security building. Needing a replacement doesn't count for their covid exceptions. Not only that, when they were verifying my identity, they have my middle name spelled differently than it is (by one letter) on my birth certificate/Driver's license, so they can't issue me anything anyways. I have to fill out some form, send in my driver's license and birth certificate, and then I'll be able to apply for a new card at that time, which would still have to be their mail in process, so all together 3-5 weeks. Yeah lol this job is toast.
