My mom was a teacher so I used to get a lot of books which was god damn frustrating as a young child. But I did get toys and vidya games so I can’t complain too much.

Yeah I think this is the year to focus on lego's for my son. He loves them. Plus I can finally pull my lego collection out of storage and give him those. I have tons of old legos from when I was a kid. We have to get rid of some books before we can get more. His bookshelf is overflowing.

Watching the boss constantly yell at his computer for 10 minutes because apparently the computer or google is making things stupid and hard. He wants to attach a picture in an email except he wants to just copy and paste it in.... and of course just does the same thing over and over again hoping it will work.

The cherry on top it's a picture he emailed to himself. Yes he emailed a picture to his gmail account so he could then try to copy and paste it into outlook email to someone else but claims google is the one making things difficult and take too many steps...

These are people they entrust with laptops , iPhones and databases of health regulations and HIPPA resources among other sensitive information. I can’t fucking even.

Like myself lol , seriously I know this struggle so much. I don’t have any advanced education but am shocked at how people get by in these positions. Meanwhile I’m still waiting to hear back on this county job and it’s absolutely a nightmare. The waiting is the worst because even though I passed background it takes then months to make decisions apparently. Meanwhile I’m trying to find better work yet want a stable job history , fucking California cost of living is killing me.

A lot of the old heads don't have degrees anyway but they've been there for 25+ years

How do you do it? I honestly don't know what to get my kids. They already have so many toys and get so many from relatives. They barely look at all the crap they have. They just want to play outside in the dirt with a shovel and a pointy stick. Plus our house is tiny so it fills up really quick. Just going to get them clothes this year and let everyone else get them toys.

Easy, I see all the shit that didn't exist for me a kid, and drown my regret in the morning with coffee.


All joking aside (or is it), my kids are easy. My daughter is super into barbie, so I get her something every year related to that. Usually an item for her doll house (ie. barbie car, this year I want to get her the horse) and clothes for them. She also loves to craft, and disney princesses, so I can often find things that combine the two. Son loves legos, so yeah. Endless possibilities there. I usually like to get them a board game, but sadly that's been kinda a fail at their age. They love them for a month, then managed to lose the pieces when I'm not looking. Puzzles. Coloring books. THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS.

My kids are pretty good about asking for only 1-2 toys (and are actual good toys) from Santa, so that helps.

Costco legit always has awesome toys the kids always love every year, and they are usually different. Then I tend to kinda go nutty on finding shit for the stockings. I have to rethink that part, it drives me nuts.


I will say some of the toys I have gotten over the years that have been huge hits:

Play kitchen
Barbie-Sized doll house (kidcraft, barbie's actual house is shit)
This puppy:

Bike upgrades
Thomas the train table (people sell these for cheap all the time on fb groups)


IDK. I have an obsession where I thought my childhood was awesome, and it was awesome. So I want to make sure my kids have an awesome childhood, too. On the flip, my dad had a shitty childhood, and when he moved to America, wanted us to have a good one, so totally overdid it on Xmas toys with us. Which was awesome. So now I do it to my kids. XD

Anything government related takes absolute ages to resolve. Applied for a current, open internship position my third year of college (of five). Literally got the response two years after I graduated. Didn't even bother replying. There are some great people if you can get to them, but for the most part the clerical people that push through the day to day stuff to trigger anything are complete and utter garbage.

ummmmmmmmmmmmm I still prefer to toys and things to unwrap and detest getting clothes lol.

My wife was upset with me a couple years back because she spent a ton on an autographed Brady magazine cover she had put in a beautiful frame with that transparent glass, but I (over)reacted way better to the star wars lego x-wing I opened right before it.

People being bad at technology doesn't preclude them from being good at their job. Having a college degree means you actively pursued your education. Whether that's a worthwhile endeavor these days is irrelevant. There are FAR too many people with degrees and they average a higher quality employee from a hiring perspective as well as a lower risk. Those hundreds of thousands of people should either pursue a degree or go into a trade. The baseline for any office job education-wise is quickly becoming a bachelor's and being behind the curve for that will only push further back. I wish high schools would actively advise kids that are not going to make it past there academically to go to trade school. There is huge demand for trade workers and construction managers all the time. I've run into more than a few people that have no college degree and can't move up in organizations because of it.

I really like your post and as much as I want to say your wrong (you're not) it is because I do not agree with this model for employment. I think about my friend who has been a auto dealer parts manager for 25 years. He's smart with anything PC related regarding work, has managed probably at least a 100 individuals over the years, and can learn anything related to his business quickly. But he probably couldn't even get an interview with say Ford for something corporate related because he doesn't have a degree, but a 24 year old with a degree in fine arts may at least get a phone interview because their app isn't getting auto denied because they put they have a degree.

Or maybe I'm totally wrong because I'm a numpty.
