Wife and I have discussed South Korea being the first abroad travel nurse job she takes when she can apply. Either that or New Zealand. I'd choose South Korea all the way.

If we really end up starting to travel based on her work, Japan is another destination for sure. We'll definitely arrange a Japan tour in an area we can go to some NJPW shows during the G1 Tournament. I'll be finishing up my Associates finally. I'm considering shifting from programming to security. However, I really need something I can do remotely. Plenty of time to figure it out.

Shit been wanting to go to Japan since my terrible mom went without me when I was little...

Almost got to have a day layover there when going to Guam but stupid airline person was like well you can't do international since you are only 3 hours before the flight... and I'm like why? I'm already thru the main line (was awhile ago so more of the holdup was at the ticket line instead of security), already in system, my bags are literally mostly just military uniforms and I'm here on orders like how hard this gotta be. No no no not enough time to make it. So had to stay the night near LAX instead and go thru all the lines again. Would been able to easily make a trip from Guam once I was stationed there except boat hit a mountain so was only there for 6 months before we came over to sunny Washington.

Oh yeah, fails. I ordered a pizza online last night. Wanted to go all meat. Pick up pizza and get home. Half is meat half is cheese only. Must of only selected half the side when choosing toppings. Terrible.

Not sure I told the whole thing but it was pretty big news back then. Even got a 60 minutes special. Basically the day before I went to fly out to my first boat (or really to squadron since it was on "mission") it hit a seamount at speeds "in excess of 30 knots". Completely obliterated a couple main ballast tanks and left a hunk of the seamount where they should be and put holes in some others. Boat barely made it back and I spent basically my entire sea duty in drydocks/shipyard. And was way too busy to really get to enjoy Guam which is a seriously underated place. Was like a cheaper Hawaii, except locals like us, a lot more Asians (especially Japanese) and strip clubs lol

New Zealand is gorgeous and an amazing place to spend a vacation but spending any amount of time living there is pretty shit. Housing costs are absurd ever since it became a money shelter for nouveau riche Chinese and consumer life is super limited if you're used to living in the US.

Say goodbye to Amazon having a bazillion products ready to ship to your doorstep on an hour's notice. You order shit from Australian eBay or Alibaba/AliExpress at 2-5x the cost you'd see in the states and wait a few weeks for it to ship to the island. Electronics stores have a selection of all of five different laptops because it's not cost effective for them to ship in multiple models that may not sell and you'll be paying easily twice the US price between import taxes and shipping. There used to be life hacks to get things shipped from US Amazon to dummy addresses in the states and then flown over, but new regulations on Li-ion batteries in cargo planes make it basically impossible to get used/refurbished electronics shipped to/from the US.

Plus pretty much everyone under the age of 40 is absolute garbage. If you thought American millennials were lazy, entitled twats just wait till you meet kiwis. It's common practice to graduate high school and then just find 5-6 of your mates to go on welfare with and split the cost of renting a house. Not that there are any jobs for skilled kiwis to begin with as practically every successful business that isn't real estate is owned by an Australian and headquarted in Australia.

In short, fuck living in New Zealand. They hate foreigners right now anyways. Blame the Chinese for that.

Ouch. I’ve only spent 3 days ever in New Zealand and loved it. Every now and then I’d joke around with the wife about retiring there while the rest of the world burns. I can tell them I’m Samoan to chill with the foreigner hate if anything.

The whole country is fucking beautiful, like for real. The beaches are amazing. It's just the everyday stuff that ruins it for people who spend more than a couple weeks there.

Like, say goodbye to 24 hour anything. If it's open past 5 it's a restaurant. If it's open past 9 it's a pub. If you want to go shopping you do it on your weekdays off. Having weekdays off to begin with sounds great from a QoL perspective, up until you realize you're not making a living wage despite the high minimum wage because you're working so few hours.

Edit: If your only goal is to spend your retirement on gorgeous beaches with a house with an amazing view you're set though.

So we do a job for a medical center. Invoice gets written up but then seems like there was a bit extra to do some initial amounts were crossed out and new amounts put in. We get check for job for the scratched out amount. I bring it up to the boss because this is like a $400 difference. He sends them something about it... few days later they call him and say they think it really is the lower amount and see maybe we just mistook some of it cause of the scratches (pretty clear to me they trying to game things from the begining) so boss immediately throws me under the boss saying someone must of entered the data wrong without even bothering to look at the hard copy and tells them to pay the lesser amount. Remember again we just went over this recently iirc Friday. I bring it to him again and he's like well maybe it got changed later see stuff scratched out... um I wasn't even talking to the person I heard she said initial amounts had already been scratched out.

I mean it's no money out of my pocket but goddamn that's no way to run a business

Ha, neat. I'll have to check it out. Honestly, whenever I'm there the TV is either tuned to Al Jazeera or Netflix.
