Whenever I ordered anything in the US, I always got it around 9pm :/.
Just lost the full time job I've had for the past 13 years, or rather just started the process of losing my job. The owner of the company is retiring and employees just learned today that we've been secretly reaching out to potential buyers to take over. There has been no bites, so liquidating begins November 14th. I can stay on through the entire process and be eligible for unemployment or find something else. What a shit evening.
Sorry man. Hop on Indeed/LinkedIn and update the resume ASAP. 13 years experience will get you in the door very easily. The job market is red hot right now for literally everything.
For sure a bummer but yeah, 13 years will open a lot of doors. And while unemployment money is not regular, better than nothing if you need to use it while job hunting.
Not sure where else to put. Just need to type. I haven't had my anxiety meds in four days (waiting on the script). I get to work today having to deal with a dude who's drunk off his tits at 8:52 a.m. My coworker isn't here because, for the 16th time in the past two weeks (yes I keep an excel spreadsheet of this), she's doing boy scout activities during work hours. I had a super angry customer call earlier which was rough to deal with.
I'm here working and my coworker says hey, you submitted a policy that starts on 11/4/18. Why didn't you put it on the board? Well, it doesn't start until November and I didn't take money so the policy is not in force, therefor it shouldn't count. She says no, you submitted it, it should go on the board. Why is this a big deal? Because we have a monthly spiff where whoever sells the most of this type policy gets a $50 gift card. I've already submitted five for November but she's trying to get them on October because she has this month won. Seriously, this petty.
I've been so stressed lately having to be the only one who's on time every day, tries the best to do the right things, and actually does work while here. If I was home right now I'd either probably have a cry or have a drink. It's so frustrating because it's a place of 3 people and this should be a fun environment, not petty bullshit.
edit: The main thing that just absolutely crushes me is if I bring up all the dumb bullshit that occurs I'm a whiner and a complainer even though it's perfectly valid. And I know this is very common in a high percentage of workplaces. I just don't get it why it has to occur. And why bosses/managers/owners allow it. I've never been a manager or an owner with employees. But to me, it would be common sense if someone came to me and said Sally has her boyfriend in the office numerous times a week and I'm frustrated that I have to pick up the slack, that should be handled.
edit 2: Guy comes in and says he needs a doc emailed to someone. I try to find doc but cannot. Cancerous coworker says, "I have the doc, I'll take care of it" and does not share doc so we all can be competent. Classic way to make themselves important by "being the only one that can handle things".
Such a petty and stupid thing. Probably because I'm off on my meds cycle but this shit makes me feel so defeated.
Dropped off my dry cleaning last night asking to have it back by Thursday. Lady snickered and said "Thursday after 3pm, sure."
I'm just thinking to myself, you've got three full days to get my shit back to me. I don;t need an attitude and there should be nothing stopping you from doing so. 24hr dry cleaners are a fucking thing. 72hr dry cleaners go out of business.
Ok so drunk dude needs to be reported a much higher level possibly needing to call the cops if he drove to work or has to do any driving there.
And other coworker... how in the hell is she missing 16 times in what I assume 10 workdays? Also something you might need to go higher up about
In my fail apparently someone broke into one of the schools we do work for and stole a bunch of stuff including the keys to the containers we loan them to use so that's nice.
I'd of loved to report potential drunk dude but he agitated the heck out of me and there was another walk in behind him that I had to take care of because I was alone.
About coworker, not missing, just incidents that shouldn't happen while you're at work. Boyfriend coming in constantly (and hugging and kissing). Constantly on the phone or having visitors about boy scouts bullshit. Other personal calls on the cell. Since October 11 I've counted 26 interruptions for her that are personal and should be handled outside of work hours. This is not just an annoyance to me that I have to do more work. She's on her cell in front of customers waiting to be helped. Or, has her scout friend in here while others are waiting to be helped. She also has a couple of old creepy guys she will hug and kiss. It's gross, unprofessional, and such things would not be tolerated at the majority of businesses.
The problem is my boss HATES confrontation. And it's only now three of us. There is no "up the ladder". And she's been his employee since day one 18 years ago. It almost feels like a "what does she have on him" that gives her no shame in doing what she does and he never disciplines. When she hooked up with her current boyfriend about seven months ago he was in the office almost five days a week, multiple times a day, and they would hug and kiss. I don't have an issue with PDA, but not in the workplace. It took my other coworker (she's leaving) and myself four requests to our boss to make the visits and PDA stop.
So wonder what would happen if you stopped doing her work...
Performance would drop overall and they could lose a lot of business.
If you try to go after her you'll end up on the street. Ignore it or leave. Sorry friend.
I've only been producing here for about a year. My coworker who's leaving produced 46% of all business last year. My boss is kind of freaking out because he turned 50 this year and I think he woke up and realized he needs to quit coasting. We have following year planning in five weeks and he said he's laying out a bunch of changes and expectations. I'm all for it.
The thing that probably bothers me the most though is the way she handles customers and doesn't try to do the best for them. While there isn't a secret way in the insurance world to get a lower rate, there are ways to combat costs that fall in the slightest of gray areas. For instance, if someone calls for a quote and hasn't had insurance on their car in two years you do have to document that in the quote. That does effect rate. She will put for prior insurance "NONE" instead of listing who the prior carrier was two years ago. Putting "NONE" causes a higher rate than listing that prior so she's not doing the best for the client. Other incidents include a general rudeness to those she does not like or will not put forth effort to do much of anything (she wouldn't print someones proof of insurance because it was supposed to be mailed out by corporate the following week).
I try to stay optimistic because most new business will go to me and now that our current book of clients has met me or talked with me I can say most like me. Some days are much harder than others and it's therapeutic for me to type out my aggression.
Was typing my reply to the above before your post. I agree and it's frustrating but that's just how it is for some reason. I've already come to terms with being here another two years while wifey finishes her RN degree. I just need to get tougher. Currently reading a great book that has taught me a lot about my role as a worker vs a person and what not and it's laying groundwork for my plan of work attack for next year.
If she's so bad with customers surely they must be lodging complaints right?
Yes recently there was a complaint from a customer I wrote about a year ago. She called and talked with this coworker and came in. Coworker was rude and not helpful at atll (trying to get good student discount applied). Later that day she filed a complaint with corporate. Boss was PISSED.
Many customers complain quietly to us. Or they will only deal with us. I'll be inheriting a ton of soon to be ex's people.
Pissed at her or pissed that the customer complained?
A mix. When asking what happened she (always) goes into defense mode and how the customer didn't help things or was rude to her blah blah.
He will never put outright blame on someone. It's always "We're doing this" or " You guy's shouldn't do that" when it's almost exclusively her. Usually once a month he'll complain about us being on our cell phones. I hate using a cell for anything but talking so don't put me into that. I took a video on my phone of her playing games on her phone for so long her monitor went to sleep. She has openly said her daughter in high school will text her to meet her in a game and they play games together while she's in school and she's "working".
It's all obvious. He has to know it's all her but he will never put the foot down. But it's like Zet said. If I go in guns blazing it will be me packing my bags even though I'm fully right and she's wrong. I'll be tactical. I'm considering asking to go 100% commission and go HAM on selling and appointments so she has no choice but to essentially be a secretary to all calls and walk ins because I'm too busy writing policies.
Yea man, slow and methodical is the best approach here. Document everything. CYA.
I think that the 100% commission thing could work in your favor, although it is super risky unless you're extremely confident that you'll have enough business to make what you need to pay your bills.
If you become a 1099 employee then you're obligated to do anything you don't want to.
