Usually once a month he'll complain about us being on our cell phones. I hate using a cell for anything but talking so don't put me into that. She has openly said her daughter in high school will text her to meet her in a game and they play games together while she's in school and she's "working".

It's all obvious. He [i[has to know[/i] it's all her but he will never put the foot down. But it's like Zet said. If I go in guns blazing it will be me packing my bags even though I'm fully right and she's wrong. I'll be tactical. I'm considering asking to go 100% commission and go HAM on selling and appointments so she has no choice but to essentially be a secretary to all calls and walk ins because I'm too busy writing policies.
Well a mix you might have hope if enough complaints get lodge. A lot of middle management types well don't want to actually do any work. So as long as work gets done and no one that matters to them is saying anything to them well there is no problem... for them. But sounds like he clearly cares about what corporate thinks and I doubt corporate would be fine if they knew but apparently it seems not enough are calling in

Are you at will state? But yeah that was kind of what I was hinting at before if you aren't doing her work for her she'll either have to step up or well it will be a problem that will have to be addressed eventually. Giving yourself something else to do is a great way to accomplish that.

Got (internally) pretty pissed at my immediate supervisor during a staff meeting today when he expressed his feelings that we failed and dropped the ball during Hurricane Michael and it’s aftermath. He pointed out how I and a few other coworkers evacuated town and we were like no shit it was a Cat 4 Hurricane that missed us by 45 or so miles. Plus our GM (also HIS boss) told everyone the office would be closed and people shouldn’t come in because of all the roads being covered with debris and power lines. I and a few others disagreed with his assessment in the meeting and I said I didn’t think that was fair of him to say given the circumstances. I REALLY wanted to go off on him but a staff meeting really isn’t the time or place for that. I think he could tell he was beginning to lose the staff on that one because he wrapped up the meeting really quick after that. Took me a good couple hours to cool down. Ugh.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT. Was traffic Armageddon today.

5.2 miles is my ride home... in that time I saw 2 ambulances, 3 cop cars and 1 fire truck go by with lights/sirens... not all in the same direction and at opposite sides of town. Traffic was backed up for 2+ blocks in 4 different spots and only 1 spot showed any actual reason for it and these are places it's normally maybe 2-5 cars waiting at each intersection.

Near home is what is part of the old part of town near the original train station... so narrow roads that aren't really made to have cars park there but they do. That of course is where the fire truck came by. So me and the guy in front of manage to eventually get over to the side and after it passes we go back into the lane only to get hit by some car coming up behind the fire truck doing about 30 MPH before it slams on it's brakes. 3 blocks later I watch a truck rear end some old lady that it looked like had just stopped at the intersection knocking her into it a little. My light goes green and cars try driving around her as the guy pulls up next to her to talk to... before without looking crosses the intersection straight thru cross traffic which at that point included me about 15 feet away <.<.

    All of my wtfs.

Edit: Also not 100% related since most of them seemed to be going in another direction (though some might have been going there) and well that was 4 hours before my ride but some big rig ran over a bicyclist

"You gonna pay us Hazard Pay?"

also, i saw a camper trailer on fire on the side of the road today. didn't look like anyone was hurt, so that was cool. wasn't enough traffic to cause a problem. they just closed a lane so the firefighters could do their thing.

They raised a bridge between NJ and NYC for a ship today and couldn't get it to come back down, so inbound was slowed (took me an extra 30 on the Acela) and outbound was really choked (90 min delay I saw).

Then I get to my hotel (Grand Hyatt) and they tell me that my company booked a coworker and I a single king bed. Had to pay $120+tax to upgrade it to one that actually had two double beds. Coworker is getting in later, so incidentals and upgrade are on my card.

Then I get to the room, plug in my laptop to do some work, sit on the bed, and it collapses on me. Apparently their mattresses are on two sheets of plywood (nonoverlapping) instead of a boxspring, and someone had killed one of the two sheets and just tilted the mattress back up so it looked like it wasn't broken.

So I called the front desk, who forwarded me to housekeeping. Then twenty minutes later I called housekeeping directly. Then twenty minutes after that, I called them again. Now supposedly they are calling "engineering" (lol, it is fucking plywood) to come fix it. Great. 4 stars.

JK yelp gives it 3 and my experience is not uncommon.

Why you did anything other than taking pics with your phone and going directly to the front desk with a mock-up email written to the local news channel is beyond me. They would’ve instantly caved and given you a new room.

I can totally relate to having shitty middle management and spineless or ignorant superiors. My boss is an incompetent and clueless idiot but the VP turns a blind eye to it as long as the works gets done. Which it does, because my fellow staff and I know our shit and do a good job. It's a small team and one of our three (including me) experienced staff finally got fed up and left after 12 years. Another experienced staff (who should have been given the current manager's job) left about 6 months before that.

If upper management had two brain cells left to rub together they would say "hmm, our experienced people are leaving. I wonder why? This is a problem."

It's not a job you can jump right into and be self-sufficient either. Takes 1-2 years to develop relationships across the company and learn the different processes. But here they are, with two people left that know anything and both of us will likely be gone within the next year. They are going to be fucking screwed.

Kal, did you ask for a raise yet? You should ask for a raise, and get it, and your boss knows it. If not, you have the perfect reason to start looking for another, and your boss knows it too. He'll either start giving you more, or getting her in line so you arent overworked. If he doesnt, he isnt worth working for anyways.

You seem really loyal to this company, but shit son that company isnt being as loyal to you as it is your lazy coworker. Take your skills somewhere you'll be appreciated. Especially if you have 3+ years there(idr how long you've actually been there).

As a general rule BG, dont do a great job at a shitty job and stay there forever. Keep your resume building, keep climbing that ladder.

Hi! (This is me waving at your hotel as I walk by)

That place kinda stinks, service-wise. They skate by on their location.

It's the giant one in the middle of Grand Central. You pass the entrance using the elevated park ave throughway thing.

Yes, at Lex & 42nd. I was just going to not say which one it was exactly.

They don't like me. I told them I don't give a shit about their loading zones when we were installing 36" steel main in the street directly in front of their entrance. They wanted us to give them access to their curb all night, as if that were possible with an 8 ft wide trench next to them.

*disclaimer* This post turned into something longer than expected but I'm keeping it.

I'm in resume rebuild mode. Five jobs in the last five years (granted moved twice) is a bad look. I've been in insurance for a total of roughly going on six years. Been here for a year and a half. I'm not necessarily loyal to my boss or company. While the county I live in is a decent size, insurance job wise there is zero to offer. In the past I worked for the largest broker in the county which everyone in town beats their meat about. Place was full of entitled fossils and the pay was barely better than my current place. To at least share some positives at my current gig:

    • 3 miles from home
    • Monday thru Friday with an encouraged 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. only
    • Very flexible with time off, but doubles as an issue because it's abused frequently
    • Current commission structure has potential for great money
    • Boss isn't an overbearing micromanaging dickhead
    • Strong brand presence
    • relative freedom to do what I want work wise

I've mentioned before how I definitely have thinner skin than most in regards to dealing with general stuff. Getting rejected sales wise does not bother me. Really large problems in general do not bother me. Hell, my wife started a kitchen fire after not turning off a pan filled with oil after frying some egg rolls and I wasn't even 1% mad. But dumb shit. Oh man, now that gets me. And that's the issue here. Yes it will be everywhere, but how far the seesaw slides to pure stupid vs my pay and sanity, well, something has to give.

To give some perspective on raises here for our base, when my soon to be ex coworker told me this I felt horrible for her. She had been here for five years. In those five years she was the top seller for 60 months straight. Her start date was the same as mine, June 1st. Her "raise" for the prior year on my start date was matching my starting base. As expected she was livid and in a way crushed. To be candid I'd rather have a larger commission % or even get residuals. Let's talk about residuals for a minute.

How many of you call or go into your insurance place and the workers maybe aren't the cheeriest or don't really give much of a darn? I'd imagine many people who have a local agent go through a State Farm, Allstate, AAA, etc. Obviously I cannot speak definitively about every office but I can say this about all of my locals! The majority either get an hourly, hourly/base plus bonus, or strictly bonus. The bonus however almost always is new business only. When an auto or home policy renews, there is a residual commission. This goes to the agency owner the majority of the time, but it depends on how the business is structured. So when Betty calls every renewal complaining her auto went up 40 cents we sort of don't care because Betty, you're a pain in my ass and I don't get paid anything to deal with you. And no, the base doesn't matter in my opinion. A good business owner will pay staff adequately for their role.

This is the issue with our roles in this office. We have no dedicated role. Our "role" is to do everything. Which again creates the problem where a shit worker will take advantage of that by not doing their fair share of work. This is where I am. This is why if anything regarding pay I'd ask for a decrease in base and higher commission on new business and possibly residuals since shown by documentation I do the most service work.

The new year will be the determination of what happens. Once coworker is done done, boss will have no choice unless he wants to self sabotage his business. At 50, I don't think he wants to take that risk.

Have to drive down the street to the Fort Meyer library because apparently there’s not a single CD-ROM burner left in the Pentagon.

Idk if I'm sad about this, or if I'm happy that the Pentagon is upgraded to the point that no one is burning cds anymore lol.
