My work fail : TLDR version - TSA conducted a “test” without informing our agency. Said TSA person almost got shot last night due to it and probably is getting fired. This could have gone horribly and was not fun for us to deal with after.
Wowzers at your works fail. That's bonkers. My coworker is a nice person. Very family oriented. She is the highest producer of us 3. But with that she has always had that "I do the most so I should get to do what I want" mentality. As noted before, boss hates confrontation. However, he's making the turn ever so slowly. Since getting pregnant she's gone from saying two months before her due date she's quitting for good to be a stay at home mom to working from home to working part time. My wife and I are betting she leaves for good. I like her as a person, but yeah, work wise I hope she's out!

My wife is 7 months in now and is perfectly fine. She only commutes in one day a week, but she works from 8 to 5:30 consistently.

She just got to work. Said she's been having random contractions and throwing up. She sent us a group text yesterday while at home and my boss replied "called braxton hicks". I thought he meant he CALLED someone named Braxton Hicks LOL. Just read up. yep, that's exactly what she has but she's acting like it's the end of the world. She said her husband wants her to go on bed rest but "I just can't do that! I can't miss work!" .......

TLDR is my coworker who's 32 and five months along has been absent/tardy/leaves work about 60% of the time since getting pregs. Is she milking or am I a dickhead for being annoyed? Long rant below!

    Spoiler: show

So I've made quips about my work. This is not about work, which has slightly been better! My coworker who is 32 is I want to say five months pregnant. I've never been around someone who is pregnant and can only go off of what I've been told. The morning sickness period is known and yeah it's going to happen. During those two months she was late to work usually 3 or 4 days. On top of being late (which has always been an issue with her, excuse being she commutes 50 miles each way) she was leaving work once or twice a day to go lay down at her Dad's house which is just up the street because she was too exhausted to be at work.

After morning sickness period ended she has a "migraine" so severe she is either multiple hours late or can't come to work. This happens a few times a week. She's constantly holding both her stomach and back because she either has severe stomach pain or her "spina bifida" is "acting up". Also, her "anxiety" of driving is making coming to work difficult. This is where I'm wondering if I'm a dickhead or if she's milking pregnancy for time off work and attention.

Since I've known my wife (eight years) she's been medically treated for migraines. We got things under control about five years ago to where it's pretty rare she gets the blackout/vomiting/superpain migraines she was getting. My coworker says she has had migraines for a long time but refuses to medication saying she doesn't need it. Even before the pregnancy she would get "a migraine so bad" she'd miss one to two days in a row.

Anxiety person here! This has grinded my gears in general because it seems like everyone now says they have something and I feel like it's the chance to play a card when you want to leave work early or whatever the situation is. Like, I get it. Driving on the highway can be hectic and yeah things happen which will cause some stress. But actual anxiety from driving? Naw. If you did you couldn't do the drive ever. There are people out there with legitimate anxiety and fear of driving on the highway because they "just know" a semi will kill them. It's an insult to those that do deal with mental health issues when others use it in passive conversation about a one off situation they had.

Asked wife about spina bifida. She said no way she has it. She doesn't have regular doctor visits or even semi regular. Before pregnancy she was very active physically going kayaking, camping and hiking, zumba, etc. And a ton of driving. One day she was complaining about her spina bifida "acting up" and even my boss said to her she doesn't have it and she got very defensive.

Bottom line is, I for sure and I think my 44 year old coworker who popped twins and a single are starting to get more than a little irritated with the tardiness, constant leaving, or calling off. However, could this really be legit? Or am I a giant dickhead?
Having gone through two pregnancies it is VERY possible that your coworker isn't milking it and is telling the truth 100%. Every pregnancy is different. For our first my wife worked all the way up to the day she went into labor. For our second she missed a heck of a lot of work due to various health issues that came up and then had to leave work 2 weeks before she went into labor from doctors orders. Pregnancy is so complicated and it can create some crazy hormone changes and physical changes in the body that are sometimes handled easily and other times not very easily.

Your points are why sometimes I feel like a dick getting irritated about missing time. I don't need to get even more ranty so let's just say well before pregnancy she missed a lot of time whether it was sick, vacation, or basically to just go do stuff. Last year during her niece's middle school basketball season and volleyball season she was leaving an hour or more 2-3 days a week. It has left me feeling like I'm the only one that can show up to work on time and actually complete an entire shift for a full week. No one else can. Ultimately it's my boss's fault for allowing it for years.

    She missed time before

    She's missing time now

This isn't hard to figure out

Also "I'm late because I live far away" is the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard. Leave earlier.

It's not really being a dick if it's been her thing for awhile now. Also the way she goes on about it but doesn't try to take care of any of the supposed symptoms that are sooooooooooooooooooo bad. Yeah naw that's acting

Amen, I live 60 miles away from my work. I'm almost 20 to 25 mins early to work every day because i give myself a lot of extra time for shit to happen. I make my drive in at 5am also, so traffic is so very rare, but i hate being late and people that are late. One of my bosses is almost 7 miles away and he late at least twice a week.... drives me crazy.

My boss is the owner and you never know if he'll show up at open time or when he's going to leave. He also lives I'd say around 12 miles away. Irritating indeed.

I'm an idiot and can't recall where you live in MI but I think you're familiar enough with the state. I used to live in Harbour Club Apartments in Belleville. The ones off 94 east after Rawsonville RD. I worked the west side of Ann Arbor. Start at 8 leave at 5. If I left my apartment at 7:22 or later I'd be late. If I left at 7:15 ish I'd be 20 minutes early or more.

I call it "Detroit Time". Every min you try to leave after 2:30pm adds 2 mins to your drive. If you are still in Detroit by 5, just stay late and watch videos for two hours and you will get home around the same time.

I don't think you should feel like a dick. It is your prerogative to interpret the situation and you are going to feel the way you do based on what you know about whats going on.

You don't know what is going on in the background. I would more worry about are they getting their work done? Are they good employees while they are there? I live in a rural area with very little to no childcare available. I have to leave work early three days a week to pick up my son from school then work from home in the afternoon. It sucks. Being a parent is really tough. Also more frequently than you would think parents feel guilty as fuck and shitty on the inside because of what happens. Most of the time parents would rather just go to work put in 8 hours and then go home and be done with it. It is so much more simple and easy and less stressful that way. But we still do it because there is no other option sometimes. It is the reality of a society that requires two income households in the majority of cases. Not only that but childcare costs can be astronomically high even if they are available. $1,500 a month or higher for a single child and upwards of $2-3k per month for two kids. It can go even higher in other parts of the country.

My point is that you don't know what is going on for someone on the other side of a situation. I suggest trying to understand that before getting to worked up and bitching about it.

All that aside I know there are people out there who take advantage of situations abuse privileges and do shitty stuff and are shitty employees. Those people would probably be shitty employees even without having kids though and are just shitty all around. But this isn't news. It is always a minority of people doing shitty things that ruin situations for everyone else.

When I worked downtown even though we were off at 6 we'd usually stick around until 7 or later. 75 N was a nightmare and then hitting 696 W was just as bad. Made Ann Arbor State St look like child's play.

    @Zoob,

I hear you. Yeah most of this isn't new but since pregnancy it feels like a small bit of play. I'm actually really happy for her that they have the luxury to have her be a stay at home mom because hubs makes $$$$. But yeah, for me it's the work. I'm on /r/insurancepros and we all bitch about the shitty days and celebrate the good so I talk more there about the details since it's in a way shop talk. It's more of a frustration of a coworker not being present even 75% of the time and when they are here they aren't engaged.

When and where did you work downtown ?
I lived outside Detroit from 2002-2007 so I’m always curious. But you aren’t kidding about the traffic.

It’s actually like the Bay Area - basically if you leave 2-5 minutes later than 7am add another 45 minutes to an hour, it’s crazy.

Welp my credit freeze with the three bureaus seems to have done fuck all because some jackwagon bought three iPhones through Xfinity Mobile and linked to my existing account for Internet services. On the phone now to get them removed and lock down my Comcast account. I'm wondering if in this case it was a.) A Comcast employee making the fraudulent additions, in which case they wouldn't need to pull a credit check bypassing the freeze or b.) regular scammer but the freeze did fuck all because I had an existing account so again no credit check or c.) Comcast just doesn't do a credit check for this and someone added it anyway with my info.

Two-step verification for life from here on on EVERYTHING.

Hanging out with my mom, aunt, and uncle at their house and watching them go through their recordings and this happened:

Me: "Oh, you guys watch 'Supergirl'"
Aunt: "Yeah, but we've not watched the latest season"
Me (without thought)' " Ah, the only thing I know about the show is the villain of the current season is the first transgender villain actress"
    *Bomb exploded*

Uncle screams at me to not say another word and to not bring up transgender related things. Forgot they're still deeply sore still about me lol.....

Sorry in advance for more posts like this, but this is my only place to vent while I'm stuck with my family. Sucks being the elephant in the room.
