Go to leave the house, start my car, low tire pressure warning. Check and big fat nail in the tread fairly close to the sidewall. Get to a tire shop and yeah it’s right on the curve so a patch won’t work, have to replace the entire fucking tire

If you've read some of my CT comments (spam thread), you may know my sister, her family (husband, husband's father, and three kids), and my mom moved to FL about two weeks ago.
Backstory if anyone is mildly interested:
Spoiler: show
It was supposed to be they all would go down to the house they are renting, and the husband would then go back to CT with his father to get all the stuff out, and ready to file the bankruptcy thing and wash their hands of the whole thing.
I noticed a week ago that he must have still been in FL, and I knew that was a sign of trouble. The husband is a full on jerk, and honestly, my sister is a full on jerk, too as she defends him in everything. My mom can't stand either but she has this obsession in her head she needs to be there for the kids. In particular, their oldest son. They do not physical touch him, but she thinks they emotionally abuse him through constant belittling. I don't think it is CPS-worthy, but she forever wants to keep an eye on them.
In any case I get a call today from her saying she's at a hotel for three days getting ready to fly back to CT. That basically they had a fight and they kicked her out (and would only let her back if SHE got counselling), that she had spent 20k helping them get down there in the first place and will now need to get a job again (she just retired last year) to recover the loss, and that they don't want to see her again.
Problem is, she's an enabler. Like, this is a vicious cycle that's been going on for years, they fight and threaten that she'll never see the kids again, she ends up giving in and apologizing even though she didn't do shit but does so because she misses the kids, they end up getting her to give them all kinds of money, fight happens, etc. etc. etc.
It kinda kills me as I know, I know, that those kids need her, but that she would have a much better relaxing retirement if she would just come live with us. She even admitted that she doesn't feel she "needs" to live here as she doesn't worry about my kids turning out ok since we're normal. But I can't seem to get it into her head that due to us being normal, doesn't that mean my kids deserve to have their grandma around?
I don't know how to convince her without sounding selfish and greedy. I honestly want her here for my kids and, way more importantly, for her health. She's been spending like 2k a month on heat in her house alone, and my dad had a lot of health issues at the end due to the cold weather. I don't want her living in CT like that. But I get that all her friends are there, and her brother (only blood relative outside of my sister and I) would never leave CT.
She is very depressed and I just want to make her happy, but sadly the reality is she'd only be happy if we all were in CT and my sister divorced her nutty husband, which isn't going to happen.
ugh.
I feel you. I've had 3 flats in 6 months after starting my new job.
Front right tire from a nail or screw while picking up lunch. Costco fixed quick easy and cheap as fuck.
Back left tire I got a flat on the Raritan bridge on the Garden State Parkway, didn't want to die so I rode it into the sayerville exit and found an empty church lot which was probably just as dangerous as the bridge. Rode on spare to Costco they won't fix because it was too close to wall, oh, and for some reason Costco won't sell me 1 tire only all 4 lol. So I took it to Mr tire or something and fixed no problem.
Then back left tire again just the other day on the parkway in bitter cold. Was in express but found a police turn around to use. Cop pulls up mid change and didn't offer to help just asked if it was just the tire and if I had a spare, lazy bitch. Anyway Mr tire couldn't patch that one so got a new tire for $200.
Can't wait for the next one. I drive a Dodge ram and this job has me commuting 40 miles each way to work, roughly 40-60 minutes each way depending on time of day, and I've been looking at getting a better car for commuting instead of a pickup. But with all these flats and the amazing spare my truck has (real tire) and with new cars having a donut or nothing at all it makes me worry.
Every once in a while I see a messy human story like this, think back to any nature documentary involving a tribe of monkeys hooting from the trees, and wonder how far we've really come.
Maybe those monkeys were ostracizing their matriarch because she critiqued the grooming of their tick-covered children. Maybe.
I don't think there is a solution here that doesn't involve a time machine.
Yeah it all just sucks. I think my mom was really looking forward to living in FL (with family though). We grew up going down to DW every summer, and she knows so much of the area, it felt familiar to her.
I think she doesn't want to come to CA as it's almost as expensive as CT, and she's afraid of driving out here (fear of heights).
But I don't want her around my sister anymore. It's just so toxic.
While I was on vacation last week, my immediate supervisor at work suffered a stroke and has been in the hospital for several days. He is out of immediate danger, that’s good. The fail is nobody bothered to call or email me to let me know so when I returned to work today I not only had to process that he suffered a stroke but the tasks I’d left to be done while I was gone didn’t get done because neither he nor I were there to do them. So, as I usually do on the first day back from vacation, spent most of the day catching up on shit that should have been done last week.
At the VA hospital in DC and holy shit is it so depressingly packed. This shit is sad as hell. Ton of old people too.
Been dealing with some extreme skin issues lately. Went to an allergy specialist and while I am allergic to every plant they test for (except pine) that is mostly respiratory allergies. Final diagnosis on the skin stuff is eczema or atopic dermatitis. Which means basically they don't know what the fuck and can only treat symptoms. So now I am religiously keeping my head and face shaved and applying copious amounts of steroid creme and shae butter at alternating times during the day. At least now I am sleeping a little better and am not ripping my scalp apart from itching but my skin still looks and feels like crap. I just wish the itchy rashes would go away and I wasn't dropping skin flakes everywhere. I can live with it on my elbows and chest but the scalp and eyelids are the worst.
Alopecia?

Stress (emotional and physical) and perhaps heat exposure wouldn't surprise me, as those go on to fuck up my scalp, too. Which more or less translates to avoid hanging around ovens and wearing hats of any kind as little as possible. 80 degree old people houses suck, too.
Work continues to be really LEAN and requesting simple things from our facilities department usually get ignored. Doesn't help that there are only 4 or 5 people taking care of 4 buildings... And one of those buildings is in South SF while the other 3 are in LA. Can't even get burned out light bulbs/fluorescent tubes changed out.
Had a stomach bug yesterday. Both ends. My wife, who is 35 weeks pregnant, also caught it. Appears to have been from our niece who we saw on Saturday for my wife's baby shower. This is the second time that we've gone to visit the in laws and everyone has been sick and nobody even bothers to warn us or mention it at all. Last time was on Christmas where like 4 or 5 of them were sick.
As shitty as it is for me, I am/was more worried about my wife. Like, wtf is wrong with you that you can't tell your pregnant daughter/sister that you're sick and maybe it's not smart to hang out too long, or at least to make sure your hands are washed at all times.
