Sorry I was going for a comparable "Sci-Fi action show where the Sci takes a huge back seat to the Fi Action", and Firefly is rightly the best one I could remember. Honestly, its insulting to Firefly. My bad.

So the reoccurring theme for years is these continuation movies/tv shows from shit 20+ years old, that were pretty campy to begin with, get trashed for not being some masterpiece.

Idk how many times I've said it at this point, but what in the ever living fuck did you expect?

This shit is awesome.

And I do have to take a second and say go fuck yourself to the people crying about characters dying. For decades it was "fucking plot armor." Now people are getting pissed that it's more unpredictable? The fuck lol

I mean, if you really want you can just go back and read my previous posts here. Had some decent discussions near the early pages about the themes of Star Trek (Poverty, Racism, etc) that have been butchered in these shows. You'll also find the posts i make clearly stating these shows are well made, they're GOOD shows, they just aren't Star Trek in my eyes.

If you can't understand what separates old Trek Vs new Trek and why I personally have a distate for new Trek, I get it, its extremely difficult to explain to someone who doesn't give a single shit about Star Trek themes and lore beyond "I saw the Enterprise and i CLAPPED". Its got nothing to do with the quality of the show in terms of production value, and everything to do with the bastardization of what made Star Trek different from other Sci-Fi visions of the future. Star Trek was the hopeful and optimistic vision of the future where Earth had its shit together, now everyones Space Racist, got people living in Space Trailer Parks, in Space Poverty.

Since most people need this spelled out for them, Star Trek has always tackled political issues and if you only look skin deep into HOW they tackle those issues you'd not see a problem. They always tackled these issues on foreign worlds, involving aliens, or the past, etc... There was a reason Present-Day Earth was featured so little in Star Trek, because frankly it'd be terribly boring because it was suppose to be an idealistic Utopia where all problems like Racism, poverty, hunger, internal conflicts, etc were a thing of the past.

So again and I can't stress this enough, I'm sure its a very good show, I just don't like it for many reasons, very few if any related to production quality and entertainment value.

Side note: In the last 30 years since I popped out in a Hospital i have never once complained about people having "plot armor", and I've always disliked the "Everyones expendable" trope. I'm nothing if not consistent.

Nope, thats Post Rodenberry. Once he died shit went downhill in terms of his Vision and more and more liberties were taken with the IP. If you want to provide some specifics you can and I can try to address them, but as I've just stated, I've had this discussion on one of the earlier pages, including this very discussion I'm telling you right now.

DS9 was really the beginning of the changes. It shows Benjamin Sisko getting butthurt about Roleplaying in 19xx era bar because "his people were treated badly" during those times (he eventually hangs out there though). I loved the character of Sisko and shit I loved DS9 despite the seeds of "New Trek" being sown there. DS9 also tried the "overarching theme", where you had some episodic ... episodes... but you also had a storyline reaching over all of them. It worked well in my opinion, even with some missteps.

O'brian, I'd like to point out during the Rodenberry era, has stated "Its not you I hate Cardassian, I hate what I became because of you". I do recall his prejudice being more "I hate Cardies" during DS9, and I can't dismiss that because it exists in lore, but again, post Rodenberry a lot changed.

No biggie. Honestly the weird thing is is that I enjoyed the new Star Trek movies, the Kirk era reboots. Fucking loved em, especially the third one.

IDK why I'm having trouble liking STP, perhaps its because Its Picard and therefor a direct sequel to the TNG era, which is by a big margin my favorite. Either way, seriously, Its a good show and i don't fault you guys for liking it at all, its just further(I want to stress FURTHER, its not new) butchering Rodenberry's vision, which is why I fell in love with Star Trek when i watched TNG as a kid. Frankly I just need to accept Roddenberry's optimistic vision isn't good TV anymore in an era where everyone just wants Grimdark reboots, ST as I knew it is dead, perhaps I could just enjoy STP for what it is, and not what i wanted it to be.

Yeah, don't confuse my nitpicking with hating, either. However, I'm with Karb on this not really feeling like Star Trek even if it is within the TNG universe.

Part of me feels like we're in desperate need of that sort of oldschool Trek, because we're still very much dealing with racism, poverty, political tribalism, and all that. People need a reminder that we should actually be striving to overcome these things and, to be blunt, us going all Ferengi with obsession over capitalism and its implied survival of the fittest isn't really for the betterment of humanity. Was there action on the show occasionally? Sure. Though sometimes it just strove to make us think.

Mind you, I've seen every episode of every other star trek and every movie.

I will say that some of these characters are really bad and rather forced, especially last episode's plot drop, and the EMH system, which has about zero reason to exist. Thankfully, the bad characters have had the least amount of screen time.
