And if we keep going this way we could also remove all hate speech from patreon, what's your point? Lots of things can happen if they change their rules, but this specific rule change removed one racist from the site and left behind rules (or at the least precedent) to remove future people who think they might want to peddle in hate speech. That seems like a good change. Do you disagree?

And for your hypothetical, "What if it was the other way around?", you need to elaborate. Was this progressive peddling hate speech? Were they actively promoting violence against another group? Then yes they should be banned what the fuck kind of question is that? Do you really think I'd say "Nah the progressives can talk hate and promote violence, but those conservaturds cant!"

Going back through the thread a bit, this may have been addresssed. None of these specific individuals (Harris, Peterson, Rubin, Benjamin) post video content to Patreon as it does not support it. The only thing they seemingly post on Patreon is the tier structure for people subscribing any maybe post some updates to the same subscribers. There is no obvious hate speech housed on Patreon itself from these individuals.

You are correct, no obvious hate speech there. Also, these individuals are not banned. They removed themselves from patreon because they were afraid of being removed by patreon themselves and all the hassle that comes from that (money donated, etc). They weren't even threatened or warned, they just did it themselves. How is that anyone elses fault except theirs? For all they know they were perfectly fine staying on the platform. /shrug

I think for these individuals part of the issue is that it could happen with no recourse. I’m pretty sure the folks such as Harris are concerned because they’re likely on the Sothern Poverty Law Center’s list of “terrible people” or whatever it is. That list seems to be used a lot by the large the tech giants to establish wether someone is acceptable or not.

Also, there has been a specific attempt to paint an entire “network” of individuals as alt right propagandists or influencers on a few media outlets in the last few months. Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson, Dave Rubin, and Sargon (Carl Benjamin) were all featured on there as names of interest.

No, it really isn't. You would just have to actually discuss and debate each individual case and not just have some simple generic rule for "This is hate, this is not". Some cases will be clearer than others.
