Read through the article didn't see anything specific alluded to except that they called some people manbabies when they were arguing about the legitimacy of having a non-male space/event at PAX.

But I mean this is the same company that takes it upon themselves to protect its users from the "burden of knowledge" so sanctimonious paternalism is par for course.

All I can think when I see people frothing at the mouth over someone being fired for unruly public conduct while representing their company's brand in one way or another, i.e. Jessica Price, is that those reeeeeeing the loudest have never had a job before. Even McDonald's will fire you for being a scumbag... eventually.

PR and marketing teams almost always have your job by the balls.

We now live in the internet age, where we're all provided a giant loudspeaker that we can use to either help ourselves or hurt ourselves. And there's no shortage of people and companies that have opted for the latter. In the case of Riot Games, which makes League of Legends, the company certainly had understandable reasons for banning Tyler1 from its game. Sure, some people argued that he was banned while others weren't, but the company had the moral high ground in Tyler1's very specific case.

And then a game designer said something colossally stupid.

On the Riot Games Discord server, an employee named Aaron Rutledge decided to vent his frustrations about Tyler1, a player he felt had caused him a whole lot of stress and unhappiness. "Honestly… it's fine he'll die from a coke overdose or testicular cancer from all the steroids… then we'll be gucci," Rutledge said in Discord. "I've spent many many hours dealing with his bullshit."

As you can imagine, the League community did not take kindly to someone from Riot attacking one of their own. Rutledge was let go from the company, though to his credit, he put the blame squarely on his own shoulders for acting in such an unprofessional manner.

He called users manbabies that were upset about the Paxpanel thing, and leaked slack chat showed the mgmt telling them to stay quiet and he kept running his stupid mouth. I think also retweeted someone who basically told the people that were complaining to kill themselves.
