although to be honest I haven't read his exact quotes. I'm just assuming he did the reflecting and changing part. if he didn't, I take it all back

“I never felt this before, which was a primal urge to lash out,” he explained to Robin Roberts. “I asked her, ‘Did you know the person? It was a man? His race?’ She said he was a black man. I thought, ‘Ok.’ After that, there were some nights I went out deliberately into black areas in this city, looking to be set upon so that I could unleash physical violence. I did it for maybe four or five times. It really shocked me, this primal urge I had. It shocked me and it hurt me. I did seek help. I went to a priest. I had two very good friends I talked to, and believe it or not — power walking — to get rid of this.”

Liam Neeson: *waves hand* “An apology will do fine.”

    SJW: “No, it won’t.”

Liam Neeson: *waves hand again* “An apology will do fine.”

SJW: “No, it won’t. Waving your arm around like some ally. I’m a SJW, ally tricks don’t work on me. Only incel tears!”

I mean shit now we're ready to ruin a man's career over an urge that he never got the chance to act upon, and that he quickly realized was utterly vile and sought help for, and that he voluntarily communicated to try and (clumsily) impart a lesson.

not saying Liam Neeson is the greatest person ever or that he doesn't still have a lot to learn about race but this is some real past-tense thought crime shit here

Now we have Black people stomping around the internet looking to hurt people because someone they don't know didn't get hurt.

Has anyone suffered and struggled more than a white man overcoming his racist impulses?

I don't think anyone is trying to make that point. I, personally, am trying to make the point that a person shouldn't be punished for impulses they had in the past and recognized were wrong and acted to correct.

You know, just to be clear.

For us weebs, apparently Vic Mignogna (most likely known for voicing Ed Elric in FMA or Broly in DB) is basically a serial pervert and has been inappropriately touching/kissing (young) fans for a decade+ and there are rumblings of other VAs being harassed, too. Rooster Teeth has kicked him from voicing Qrow in RYBW and a lot of cons have rescinded invitations. Probably a safe bet his career is over.

His apology letter is probably one of the weirdest and creepiest things I've read this year.

But if you look at it from an american standpoint. We've dealt with George Zimmerman and now we've rediscovered a lot of people are actually pretty racist and don't care thanks to Trump.

What you described is a good mindset to have. But in the case of what his he was thinking of doing is really inexcusable and he shouldn't be given a public platform anymore.

I understand not liking someone for being a piece of shit. I understand not wanting bad PR. I'm not sure I understand just how far people will demand over comments. Usually not more than 4-5 sentences.

James Gunn made some bad jokes a decade prior and was removed as a director despite making two of their most successful films at the date. They want Liam Neeson removed from a movie that's already made and to be released in four months. Not like he's a small part either. It would likely cost them tens of millions of dollars. Over what boils down to people not liking one guy because of a few sentences.

He's not advocating violence. He's specifically saying "These kind of thoughts are horrible. I fucked up" He sought help. I'm not saying what he did was okay or even necessarily should be dismissed outright but I just wonder how far it will go. Next month Chris Evans comes out and says he gets sexually aroused by beating children. Disney responds by cancelling Avengers Endgame. Would more people be upset or happy?

but that's the thing. he was racist and he did care and felt awful. and when the left devours him even after his mea culpa, that sends a very strong signal to people who are teetering on the edge of overcoming their racist bullshit (and there are, at least in my hopes, a lot of those people in the racist world).

IDK I see what you're saying, and I don't entirely disagree. I just think the absolutism of these situations (see: silver dragon's point about Gunn) is a horrifying and dangerous place to be

Every movie investor (or content investor) is making a bet about the cultural appreciation for the content they are funding.

If people don't want to see a movie starring a racist and you funded a movie starring an undercover racist or Mel Gibson, sorry but you lost the bet. GG and bet again or take your ball and go home.

Daddy's Home 2 exists tho, so maybe just push on and release it anyway?

The whole Gunn thing was super weird because anyone with a finger remotely on the pulse of this figured out:

    1. It came from Mike Cernovich who's a massive fucking troll.
    2. The guy just pulled the same shit on Sam Seder (Host of the Majority Report) and got him fired from MSNBC for a couple of days. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifes...=.c7e20b028973
    3. The people involved in the firing of James Gunn didn't want to admit any wrongdoing even though the main cast of GotG signed a letter calling for his rehiring.

But I digress. I think the question i'd ask myself is would I want to be working around Liam Neeson, knowing he wanted some shit to go down so he could kill a black person.

    I wouldn't.

I mean what you're saying is "would I work with someone who either thought/felt/possibly did something awful a long time ago and learned from it?" and yeah, I would.

The one I saw wasn't really an apology for what he did but a denial doing anything untoward outright and apologizing if some innocent stuff he admits to was taken otherwise

I thought New Balance were supposed to be the white supremacist brand, not Adidas.
