Eugenics is the applied science or the biosocial movement which advocates the use of practices aimed at improving the genetic composition of a population (Unified Medical Language System)

When we think of eugenics we think of those practices -- in the extreme it would be the ones the Nazis used, such as forced sterilizations. Aborting undesirables fits into that conception. Or even more benign forms of coercion, like if they had to pay a tax for having undesirable child either directly or indirectly (e.g. more taxes on parents because of increases healthcare costs for their child or because the state believes it will have to collect money to support an 'unproductive' public charge)

Each individual couple freely making the decision to abort does not amount to a movement because there are no practices in place.

No where does your own definition say law. The movement can be a cultural one. If it's at almost 100% then it doesn't matter whether it's by state or by culture. It's still happening to the point that there is a strong expectation by even doctors that it will happen.

I actually think Down's is a perfect example of this, because people with Down's Syndrome are actually on the better end when it comes to raising through modifications in the special needs world. Due to the nature of the genetic mutation, all people with Down's Syndrome experience the same difficulties as the rest. This has lead to experts being able to create almost a cut-and-dry formula on how to raise someone with Down's Syndrome to make them as independent as possible. They can clean themselves, cook for themselves, work, etc.

If we can get to the point that they are almost 100% aborted due to being able to read it in the womb, there is absolutely zero doubt in my mind that any and all people with special needs can be aborted 100% if we can get the technology to test it ahead of time. Got ADHD? Gone. On the spectrum even if mild? Gone.


It doesn't need to be law. If society accepts this as the best way to be, it will happen once the technology is there .

I could argue there is a culture of hostility such that it would dissuade parents from keeping a special needs child in almost every country on the planet. We have parents in the US alone who are willing to allow their children to die from a disease than have autism based on wonky unproven science.

Remember Iceland only has about 4000 births a year. (they have the same population as Santa Ana, California - 334k) The rate of Downs births is like 1/700. Their "eugenics" is 5 moms making a decision to abort every year. We're talking about maybe 150 Downs abortions in the country since testing became an option.

The draft being needed any time soon is exceptionally unlikely. We have a gigantic amount of people that already regularly get denied entry to the military for whatever reason, just easing the restrictions on acceptance and letting all of those people in would more than provide any number of new recruits needed.

You are missing something here. The draft was never rescinded, and all men must register for it when they turn 18.

It's incredibly unlikely that it will ever be used but it definitely still exists.

There is also the little known fact that even the people who are 4 and done still have 4 years inactive service after they get out which they can and would be called in if something happened.

Plus putting women it is basically the last coffin in the nail to the draft. It's going to be a pretty risky stance to take to say we should actually draft women outside of the most dire of circumstances

Yup, got to love selective services. Can't qualify for student loans and some jobs (I had to prove I registered for the draft when I turned 18 to qualify for my county job) and other benefits if you're male unless you register. Women don't have the same requirement. So i'll be happy to see that abolished or made mandatory for both sexes just so it's fair.
