It's a gray area. On the other extreme end of the spectrum, no one wants Elizabeth Warren playing Pocahontas even if she can prove its part of her heritage.
I get it. I just think it’s dumb. It’s like saying if my son were to ever become an actor he couldn’t play a Dominican because he’s half Cambodian. Where does it begin/stop?

I joked about it a week or two ago with that white dude claiming to be black, but I’m convinced we’re going to see a law for some kind of genetic base-line established to claim a certain part of your heritage in our lifetime.

You couldn't make 12 Years a Slave nowadays because of all the violence and racism.

Also Michael Corleone wasn't a sympathetic young man caught up in a tradition of violence who we follow on his journey to become a monster, he was a good guy. And the mafia were good guys too.

Couldn't make How I Met Your Mother now because Barney raped his way through 9 seasons of women. Thank god that show came out decades ago before this PC nonsense

I think 12 Years a Slave could be made today. It frames it in a different way. It doesn't make light of it or try to exploit it. How I met Your Mother on the other hand... A heterosexual rapist played by a gay man would certainly ruffle some feathers. How could he take work away from actual heterosexual rapists?

I think good 'ole Brett Kav. would make a great Barney.

Coincidentally this also why you couldn't make Barney the Purple Dinosaur today.

Turns out "I love you, you love me" wasn't a suggestion.

wtf, there are some pretty shitty takes on what’s acceptable in films going on here as far as content and portrayals are concerned

y’all know the movies aren’t real right, the mafia can (historically be presented as having) have a distaste for blacks and you can beat blacks in slave films all you want

Hey while we are talking about The Godfather, here is one of my favorite facts about the movie. The dude who played Luca Brasi (Lenny Montana) was not a traditionally trained actor but was actually a member of the Mafia who was on set as part of a deal with Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola to ensure that the Mafia was not portrayed in an overly negative light. Part of the deal was to put Montana in the film so get a SAG card, and the opening scene of Brasi practicing his request to Don Corleone was actually him rehearsing his lines over and over trying to memorize it. Coppola enjoyed the authenticity of it and decided to keep it in the film. During the scene where Brasi is garroted, Montana reportedly intstructed the other actors on how to make it look the most realistic.

my favorite godfather trivia is fredo was married to Meryl Streep, and he only appeared in five films before he died: all five were nominated for best picture

Goodfellas is the best mafia movie. Change my mind. (I do like the Godfather just not as much.)

I don't like the narration in Goodfellas. I like how the Godfather just plays out like a novel.

I didn't like the Godfather when I first watched it but Godfather part II was so good it retroactively made the first one better and now they're both great.
