the thing about joking about beating your kid because he's acting gay is that for some of us that was never a joke, and people like Milkster have every right to react the way they do. if you haven't been there, don't judge his reaction. if you haven't been beaten up for being gay, you might not understand why it's not funny to us.

There are countless number of kids being beaten up for plainly existing. Trying to say their beatings don’t matter as much is just terrible.

I'm thinking about writing a series called
"What's wrong with _______" Basically just shitting on movies, shows, sports, pop culture, etc.... This style of writing seems to be very popular these days. The more ridiculous, the better. As a life long hater of things, I might as well make money on what I love doing.

Great hyperbole. Social change is happening in regards to the homosexual community, I'm not defending the random populations bigotry or choices, but this kind of thing will never end, ever. I don't even see a reason to bring it up, this level of bigotry has been going on since humans first interacted with eachother, and the bigger more important picture is social equality and working to make sure in the big picture no group is discriminated against. You won't end individual bigotry, ever, its a fucking stupid argument, and the only reason you brought it up is because its an easy hill to defend on due to its broad reaching, no purpose, implications.

Individual bigotries cannot be stamped out, changes to our laws and society as a big picture are the best we can hope for and strive for.

And yet, that's why comedy like this can be important. I'm not going to go so far as to attribute any particular altruistic or artistic motivation to Kevin Hart as I don't know much of anything about him as a person. But the fact is that ideas and perceptions are not changed if people don't talk about them, and often the easiest way to engage people with sensitive or controversial topics is through comedy.

I don't like the idea that we should just dismiss things people say on comedy sketches or memes because "it's just a joke." That's lazy and dumb. However, in effect I'd still give a free pass to the vast majority of things people say in comedy sketches or memes because they serve an important role in shifting cultural norms.

Whether intentional or not on the part of Kevin Hart, joking about dads beating their kids for being gay on twitter/tv will probably result in fewer dads actually beating their kids for being gay.
