This one is alarming, especially that the vast majority of them are trans people of color, almost 80%. I wonder if the increase we're seeing over the last 5 years is related to not only homophobia/transphobie/bigotry but also the general increase of trans people? Not that that matters much.

While nothing in the article suggest this was a hate crime, ICE has acted despicable in general and I've never like how we treat people at the border.

For real though you've done enough to satisfy my questions, Thanks Milk.

Lead me to some interesting Wiki articles as well, thanks for bringing it up.

So far this is the most compelling piece of evidence presented. It paints the picture, when in context of childen, that stigma and disgust around your child being LGBT is still far too present. I've tried to corroborate those numbers by finding the research that it came from, I'll keep looking. I did find an article that claims it was from polled responses from Homeless shelters around America. One such adding more detail that
Trans people are usually labeled as just John or Jane Doe if found dead and they don't usually put any extra work into the statistics for their right gender.

On an institutional level, the Trump administration has this weird hard on for trans individuals for someone reason.

From the military ban to having the DHHS only recognizing two genders and changing the definition of sex to some regressive thing.

The existence of ICE is basically a hate crime. They hate immigrants (only the brown ones though), which is very apparent in how they've been handling everything.

What the fuck lmao. "assistant, get the Ouija board, we dont want to assume the gender of this Doe"

Seriously, this is the hill you want to die on? Coroner's arent assessing the gender of the deceased by more than what is visible on their dead body, fucking lmao. Are they gonna haunt them from the afterlife for assuming their gender? Gives a new meaning to the team "deadnamed".

Lets take it a step back: if they're labeled "John Doe" or "Jane Doe", that means they dont even have a fucking NAME to identify them with. But your concern that they're not properly naming them John or Jane, which is so much more important.

Take one line out of a person's argument, label that as the hill they are to die on, ignore everything else.

    How smart people argue.

*Add gif for additional undeserved smugness.

Sry guys, information request rather than bickering...

There is an apparent conflict between two PC liberal factions:
    1) People who abhore gender-based stereotypes (anything you can do, I can do better; women are smart and funny, get over it; etc.)
    2) People who identify as a different gender (transgender)

One group attempts to change gender roles and the other buys in and conforms. Does anyone have an article about how transgendered peeps think about the evolution of gender norms?

What part of the other three lines I removed from the quote were about mis-labeling of dead transgender people???????

Nope, not this one. The mis-labeling of deceased trans people has nothing to do with Trump.

Not this one either. If anything, banning trans from the military would probably be beneficial to their lifespan, as opposed to detrimental, you know, the whole doding bullets in a warzone. Frankly, if someone's willing to die for their country, let them go.

I always found it interesting that the term transexual is considered outdated.

When it comes to gender, I'm a bigger fan of 1. You shouldn't have to feel like you need to label yourself a woman just because you want to wear a dress, makeup, etc., and society has made people feel those are "woman things" vs. it being anything to do with being born a certain way.

When it comes to actual male/female, the term transexual seems to make more sense. Our bodies are constantly born fucked up. People are allergic to the most basic of foods, or their bodies don't produce what they need to live (ie. diabetes), born with extra limbs, born without limbs, etc. etc. etc. It doesn't seem all that far fetched to me that a brain coded with a female makeup somehow ends up in a male body. Making said person long to have breasts, a vagina, to give birth, etc.

I assume most transgender fall into that second category, but don't think there is any shame in being the first. Just that the first says we need to do more in how we look at gender roles, and the second means we need to be more accepting for those born that way.

Weird how the generals wanted trans people in so much I had to sit in training in 2016 about how shit was gonna be handled.

    https://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=97562

To remain the finest seagoing fighting force the world has ever known, the Navy needs men and women who are the right fit for the right job regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, creed, or gender identity. Our goal is to ensure that the mission is carried out by the most qualified and capable service members. If the individual can meet the Navy's standards, they should be afforded the opportunity to serve.
And about the whole ICE thing they don't target trans people but they give them special treatment.

I interrogated this one reserve soldier who swore up and down he had PTSD from his deployment to Kuwait. He felt he was constantly in danger over what was going on hundreds of miles north in Iraq.

my brother's wife's sister's ex husband (yes) tells everyone he has severe PTSD from all the women and kids he killed in iraq.

you know, in the maintenance battalion he was in, and in which we are all reasonably sure he never fired a shot from.

they met in the wash-out/psyche/holdover program, where you kind of hang while the army determines what to do with your stupid ass when just kicking you out is too irresponsible, even for the army.

The fundamental problem with the notion that gender dysmorphia is a result of a medical condition (hormone imbalance, neurochemical mismatch, what have you) is that it leads to the conclusion that the optimal (least harmful, both physically and emotionally) method of care is to treat that medical condition rather than perform a complete physiological overhaul of the body.

In other words, if the reason someone with a penis feels the need to have breasts and a vagina is a neurological condition, then any sane doctor would attempt to treat the neurological condition rather than perform life-altering and irreversible surgery that comes part and parcel with major difficulties reintegrating into society and a significantly higher risk for suicide along with depression and other mental health disorders

Viewed in this light, going through a transition becomes a cosmetic choice rather than a medical necessity. This is a huge no-no for trans activists for what should be obvious reasons. By framing gender dysmorphia as a gender issue rather than a purely medical/biological issue, transgender Americans are able to assert a fundamental right+need to exist and transition. The problematic issues surrounding gender roles this stance entails are kicked down the road since the stakes are lower and less urgent for women who choose not to adopt traditionally feminine roles.

The idealized world where "gender doesn't matter" is something of a luxury for those whose sex and gender have never been in conflict in the current, non-ideal world where gender most certainly does matter.

It's a bit like a white person saying "race doesn't matter." Yea, for us it doesn't.

As a recently realized (denial is a helluva drug) and still somewhat closeted transgender MtF (I feel like I might regret posting in this debate, but oh well), here is my 2 cents just based on what i've experienced and have seen since June.

Spoiled because I inadvertently turned this into a wall of text/blog FeelsBadMan

    Spoiler: show
In regards to the term 'transexual', only reason from what I've seen as to why it's outdated, is it refers to us as transitioning as a sex based reason, instead of gender based, hence why transgender is considered the better term. Also 'transexual' can apply to those who have transitioned, but not those like I who are still working toward that.

In regards to a lot of is following along gender lines: first off, enbys and gender fluid people do exist, they just unfortunately are the minority of the minority of the minority in terms of visual representation (as well as FtM Trans, unfortunately...). But from what I've felt and seen, alot of us focus on towing the binary line, mainly to try and pass and have people treat us like the gender we are, instead of treating us like we are freaks. I do agree, in an ideal world, we shouldn't care about what's considered to be gender appropriate, but unfortunately it's not and people do like to classify in a binary sense.

In regards to how I feel about female related things (this is just my own opinion, others vary widely, mainly depending on their own or lack of gender dysphoria), I have no plans toward getting GRS, mainly because I have no bottom dysphoria, i'm still glad I dodged menstruations, am sad I can't 'have' children, but gotta roll with what life gives; looking forward to HRT (waiting to hit a low enough weight), VERY interested in learning makeup (though shit looks complicated and will take a lot of time to learn). Also BADLY want to start wearing feminine clothing (esp. Skirts...), but I know unless I'm on HRT and have started looking more feminine, I'll just feel like an ugly man in women clothes and be deeply depressed...... More then usual!

Also I've only come out to my Mom (she is 64, so her first question was: "So does this mean you like Men now?" /Face palm, but she sorta accepts me), one of my IRL friends (his was: "So are you going to get reassignment surgery then!?", In front of strangers outside the restaurant our families are at, was never so embarrassed in my life....) and of course, you my BG peeps. Going to have to come out to rest of my family when we visit them in a few weeks...... So... Fun....

Part of the problem of coming out to people (esp family), is you don't know what their reaction will be. It could range from extreme anger and hatred to complete acceptance, it's almost like playing a Gacha game it feels.

Anyway, sorry all that this post was long af (also felt too much like a blog), but just wanted to throw in a perspective relevant to the discussion).

Also, to throw into the weight arena, before admitting to myself as trans, I weighed 419 at my physical in May (I gave 0 cares for my body then). Since I admitted to myself who I am, I started dieting/exercising/intermittent fasting and I now weigh roughly 325 pounds, so yay.

Everyones gonna need a Ouija board to communicate with the deceased transgendered people to not deadname or mis-label them. Who cares why theyre dead, who cares if its suicide or murder, or even who they are, the top priority is to make sure that the unknown deceased transgenders name is not John Doe when theyre Jane Doe.
