Because he was on a big contract for a kicker and struggled with injuries and declining play last year. The Cowboys cap management has been atrocious for years now so he was, in their estimation, the best place to save some cap room. The main issue is their cap management, not the decision to cut Bailey.

And speaking of things I don't understand about the NFC East, how is Ereck Flowers still employed, let alone starting?

I know it was a 1st round contract so he's getting paid no matter what, but why keep playing him when he's so goddamn bad?

There's a reason Nate Solder got a huge contract just to be a solid tackle - there aren't many quality ones around. Flowers played decently against DeMarcus Lawrence last night.
