I'm trying to find any confirmation that they actually threw rocks or whatever at border guards. I'm seeing that they tried to move toward the San Diego border and got blocked, so they advanced toward the next border crossing over and were met by riot police, and then a few tried to scale the wall and that's when tear gas got fired. Then Mexican federales drove them back. My assumption is that the moment when they met the riot police is what's qualifying as "attacked border guards."

nah. in the video that still of the family is from, before the teargas is released, you see a few people chuck rocks over the wall. given that the wall is like 20ft higher than them from where they were standing, they had no way of knowing what was on the other side so i'm not sure what they thought it would accomplish.



i first saw the video unedited on facebook of all places. couldn't believe it, did some digging just to make sure it was legit, and sure enough, it was.

It does need to be overhauled, but we already had plenty of precedent considering these caravans have been coming for years at around the same time. We've had plenty of practice and success processing them the normal way, and then we elect this idiot and it turns into a national crisis as if the Mongols are invading or something.

Too bad this administration has cut off or actively made worse any and all avenues for doing the legal thing theyre supposed to do. Kinda hard to take the argument in good faith when they actively make it difficult to impossible to do the legal thing.

Well, they cut off or adjusted assistance designed to curb this. Tear gassing a bunch if asylum seekers prior to knowing if they're legitimate or not would be the second part.

asylum claims from Central American countries have increased 900% since 2012 and there is currently a backlog of 750,000 claims in need of review by immigration courts that are accustomed to dealing with a tenth of that number. the problem is new, we as a nation have no experience dealing with it as in the past our mass asylum efforts (such as with the South Vietnamese when North Vietnam was launching its war-winning offensives) were coordinated by the federal government, and the system in place is being totally overwhelmed by the massive increase in volume.

Hey man, I'm not gonna blame them for the problem no one before has been able to solve effectively. What I will do is blame them for doing things in a way that will clearly not fix the problem, like cut off economic investments in their home countries and tear gassing children.
