[QUOTE=kuronosan;7108167]What an appropriate analogy, because that would make Kanye Schroeder, Donald would be Pigpen, his supporters would be all the dumb shit kids who laugh at Charlie Brown, and Ben Shapiro would be Lucy, easily. Because, you know, being able to trick people and sound intelligent does not mean you are actually intelligent. It just means you're smart.[quote]
Not gonna lie, I don't know enough about Charlie Brown to get it. I do know who Pigpen is though. But that's a pretty self-defeating argument. "You're not intelligent if you can trick people, it just means you're smart." Well, I'm gonna have to go with if you're smart enough to trick someone, if you have say cunning, that's at least some sign of actual intelligence. It's like you thought I'd just go along with "Ah, Ben Shapiro is just tricking people." I think you have Ben confused with Milo. How long does his resume, his list of achievements and so on have to be before you accept that he might just be a relatively smart conservative, instead of a snake oil salesman?
I'll agree Ben is smug, he is one smug fuck. He's also a pretty damn decent person. Recently, a leftist actor/director spoke with him with privately, to get a conservative opinion on guns. Ben followed his rule, which was no pictures, don't really talk to anyone about this, I'm sure you're a fine person, but you're going to have to deal with nuclear fallout if it gets out. A few months later, the guy posted that Ben was a decent and fair dude, give him a try, because Ben treated him nicely earlier. Mark Duplass, I believe? The dude got bent over on Twitter until he apologized for the sin of saying Ben Shapiro was a decent human being. I have no clue where you pulled the "Black people aren't victims" thing from, I quite literally have no clue what you're talking about? There's a difference between disagreeing and what Ben Shapiro does. I actually put him in the same vein as Christopher Hitchens, if only in principle. He believes for some reason that it's okay to be a dick to people if you think you're smart. The biggest difference is that Christopher Hitchens was actually a very smart guy who just didn't have time for bullshit. And I still dislike Hitchens because of how he was. I just hate smug. I always have. So, I mean, you can obviously have two people disagree with each other. "Black people aren't victims" is not something worth debating with somebody who argues that point specifically with the intent of being a racist douche.
Difference of opinion, I find Shapiro has fantastic arguments, and by the growing number of people who think the same, I don't think I'm alone in thinking that. It was only a few months ago that his podcast got syndicated on regular radio, and in January he's going from his daily 1 hour-ish podcast, to adding 2 additional hours of radio as well, his Election Special the past 3 weeks have increasing ratings, and beat CNN and MSNBC combined. I'm not using the number of people who are tuning in, and continuing to tune in, and telling their friends to say unequivocally the man is right on everything he says, but there's certainly something there worth paying attention to. And the other asshole you're talking about I presume is Crowder, because he does the "Change my Mind" segments? Gotta be legit, I only watched a little part of that, that was a difficult one to watch. It absolutely helps to be smart. And I would be able to respect Ben Shapiro if his arguments didn't amount to garbage dribble with nothing to back it up. It's something like the equivalent of that asshole who said that rape culture is a myth. You don't ignore mounds of evidence that refutes your argument by regurgitating statistics you haven't properly interpreted.
Yeah, we're going to disagree here too. I think you're looking at the right-wing as purveyors of lies way more than the bullshit parts they do spit out. I've seen that plenty of times, and I literally have not seen any omission. Is there actual racism? Fuck yes, the right admits that. It's just not wildly as prevalent as the left thinks it is. The left has this hard on for everything being racism. If you want to argue which group of whatever people you want to talk about more problems, either economically, criminally, etc, go right ahead, you'll find some racism, but far and away you'll find other issues. For example, single parent children across the board are more likely to have problems, and the rate of single parenthood among most US populations (however you want to break it down) has risen drastically since the 1950s. If you want to link that to racism, by all means, give it a shot.Case in point: Common right-wing talking about is about how black shootings by police is a myth because statistics show whites are more commonly killed. What is conveniently omitted is the pretty obvious fact that there are simply more white people than black people in this country. So uh, obviously if 10,000 whites are killed out of a million it's a much larger proportion than 10,000 out of 10 million blacks. Those aren't the real numbers, but it's pretty easy to make a case about the percentages being wrong when you ignore demographic data.
He's educated, OK, we agree. He literally encourages the opposite of non-critical thinking (Which is only more hilarious because there are plenty of university classes that use "Critical Thinking" that has nothing to do with actually thinking critically, and instead focuses on things like intersectionality). He does encourage biased thinking, he also dislikes political centrists, he thinks he has better ideas than the other side, and his job is to convince people that he's actually right. The most common critcisms that I hear of Ben, especially in real life, are the same ones I'm seeing here: "Strawman!" but without any dismantling of the strawman. I believe he's much better at analysis than he is at coming up with new stuff. If an intellectual is someone who uses their intelligence to engage in critical, deep thought and productive conversations, I just presume you quite literally avoid anything Shapiro involved, since that's basically what he does. He's educated, sure. But he encourages non-critical, very biased thinking. He's intelligent. That is not what an intellectual is. Intelligence is a very superficial adjective. Intellectual implies a person who uses their intelligence to engage in critical, deep thought, and carries out productive conversations in the name of intelligence
An intellectual must be intelligent. An intelligent individual isn't necessarily an intellectual.
It's been a few months now that he's had the "Sunday Special", which is 1 hour long conversations with people, especially if he can get people who he disagrees with. He's a religious Orthodox Jew who spent an hour going back and forth with the militantly atheist Sam Harris. The episode with Eric Weinstein was great, they are rather ideologically opposed, yet he seemed rather onboard with Weinstein's idea to fix journalism was to pay journalist much better, and fire them when they fuck up. He talks with professors and theologians about the nature of the universe and what not, he'll talk Hebrew scripture stuff then sit down and talk to Joe Rogan about podcasting. The list goes on and on and on and on. How on earth does that not bespeak of someone who's a legitimate intellectual?
I watched two of his videos that amounted to "Ben owns the libs".
You admit he freely acts like a douche as part of his job.
Why on earth would I take him seriously as a political voice? For the lulz?
I'm an adult and more importantly a health care provider. Imagine how retarded I would sound playing my agenda on patients "just because".
Once again. Cleverness is intelligence. It does not make one an intellectual.
Note that when shukudai talks about leftists, he doesn't talk about policies. Not medicare4all or codetermination or card check or expanding social security or universal basic income or job guarantees or even tax rates in general. His conception of the left (and the right, probably) is all about identity politics. Racial grievance and the perceived loss of white dominance is the lifeblood of 2018 Republican party politics, and this is the perfect example. He doesn't care about things that materially effect people's lives, he cares about antifa and uh, Linda Sarsour (i have only a vague understanding of who that is) and irrelevant people like Louis Farrakhan or whatever.
This is what happens when your political education is mostly from Youtube. It's really bad, folks.
Well, I did kind of use this major super leftist website that leftist's love called Vox.
Tim Pool is a Youtube kid? Let's take a little bit of a look.
From Wikipedia:
NBC, Reuters, etc. He was with Vice Media for quite a while, etc.Pool's coverage has been carried and syndicated by multiple mainstream outlets including NBC, Reuters, Al Jazeera, and Time.[7][8] He was covered by Fast Company and Wired.[7][9][10] In 2013, Pool joined Vice Media producing and hosting content as well as developing new methods of reporting.[11] In 2014, he joined Fusion TV as Director of Media innovation and Senior Correspondent.[12][13][14]
Gonna have to go with the guy isn't some dumb kid on Youtube (plus, he's like in his 30s). I tend to find him reliable, because he tends to get dumped on equally as hard by the left as by the right at various times, he's not vitriolic, and he's willing to talk to people on both sides. He's definitely a legitimate source, so I'm not sure what would convince if you're not looking at both Vox, and the Tim Pool video, that both reference 4chan as the originator of the OK power sign hoax.Pool was nominated as a Time 100 personality in 2012.[28] The following year he received a Shorty Award in the "Best Journalist in Social Media" category.[29]
I look at this as "This guy's saying he's open, but he wants other sources. The best answer to that is that Vox got the story right, and they are a leftist site, so that should be more credible, don't let him say that's not good enough, ditto with Tim Pool." You gotta discredit their work, because they both came to pretty similar conclusions using the same facts.
The best way I can put it in the hopes that it makes sense to you is the whole OK white power sign/white supremacist shit is *LITERALLY* what Day just got banned for (someone stated it was for purposefully trolling, because he knows how to get under people's skin). This is the same thing. I hope I'm a good person, but every time I see someone fall for it, I can't help but laugh, the idea of screwing with the left that way definitely has it's appeal so I try to avoid it, and to explain it, usually while getting mocked and laughed at. If I end up being wrong, I'll eat crow, but so far on this specific issue, I'm pretty fucking sure I'm right.
Have you heard of this thing called context?
I also notice you didn't respond when I responded back to you, transcribed the response, and went on to state my interpretation of the whole Israel/Arab thing you went on about with Ben. Either I missed a response, but mostly I felt like you just didn't have any response to that and moved on, which is usually what people do when they can't disagree
But, frankly, I'm glad that's your perception of me, or people who use similar arguments to the ones I've used. The more people who believe as you do (and you seem to be consistently wrong), the more people who share that point of view, the more it relieves me. We can talk about Medicare for All, or Medicare, or Medicaid if you want (or just go watch Ben dunk on Cenk for an hour, I'm pretty certain your talking points line up pretty much with Cenk's). Perceived loss of white dominance just makes me giggle. Keep viewing things through the lens of identity politics, keep doubling down, keep believing what you do, it's just going to insure that the left continues to lose all the big battles.
It's always funny to me how the people who scream the most about white supremacy, white power, they're all racists, bigots, sexists, and whatever else you think of them literally can't recognize the simple fact that people are individuals, and shockingly, we can disagree without being those things. While I waiver back and forth about who'll win in 2020, you give me a lot of faith that the left is just going to keep flailing downward. I wonder what'll happen if Trump wins in 2020, will the left wake up? Probably not![]()
I've heard of someone not liking facts, and asking for more facts after two were provided to them. I'll resort to google it, because I've been linking shit for hours today, I'm pretty sure you're capable of Googling things. I literally googled "OK sign 4chan" and got Vox as the first freaking hit. Do the same, click on some of the links, see if you think the sites are reputable. Or continue to believe that everyone who uses the OK sign is secretly a white supremacist I guess?
Stupid people associate with identity politics.
That is not what being left or right is about. The "modern right" has moved so far right because identity politics fills seats that what was conservative is now seen as moderate and has been largely dwarfed by stupid people because power.
The left, on the other hand, has done somewhat the same. People are triggered by identity politics, and they want them to be the seat filling saviour the right abuses them to become. It doesn't work, because what was once left is now more moderate by comparison as well. And so we that lean left lose elections and seats to third way politicians trying to appeal to that cause, quite unsuccessfully.
But you're a naive fool if you think the Republican party of today is awesome and is thriving because of liberal tears. They want power, and they're getting it.
It's pretty silly to think politicians should be "owning and trolling the libs" as a norm.
This is a civilization. Not an MMORPG.
oh sick, i see you guys got a shiny new retard to play with
I actually want Day back.
Republicans became the white identity party because we recreated a 1910s-railroad-magnate-tier class of superwealthy Americans (thx Reagan, Clinton, and Bushes) that basically run the policy for the Republicans. White identity politics is a way to motivate the base while not committing to a defined policy agenda, which allows the superwealthy to do whatever policies they want (like massive tax cuts for themselves.)
Worse yet, because the power has been concentrated in so few hands, we are now reliant on the judgment of individual people. Humans are terrible at rational thought, so we can't rely on a rational policy outputs.
And, on this note I'm out. You've convinced me that you are not a person who can be engaged in rational conversation. You are right, nothing can convince you otherwise. Enjoy your opinion, I'll enjoy mine, and we'll see if the evil, stupid, mean, right-wing keeps winning despite being evil, stupid and mean. After enough losses, I can only hope the rational left makes a comeback. But doubling down seems to be the tactic of the times, and doubling down on losing propositions led to all three branches of government controlled by the party you oppose. It's worked so well the past few years, I can't possibly imagine how we got to where we are.
Is this the part where he pulls off his mask and reveals he was Day all along?
2009 is a pretty long con, good job.
That hadn't been my experience of Archie at all but coo
