I mean you are black so the GOP will probably make sure you have access to sterilize yourself no matter what.


On a side note though this decision from what I understand revolves around the constitutional right of citizens have to privacy and the lack thereof in the constitution outlining privacy as a right. The issue is that if they use this reasoning to overturn Roe V Wade it opens up the door to overturning many other decisions as well as opens the door for other laws controlling peoples personal lives that were not allowed by extension based on the assumption that we are entitled to personal privacy.

Isn't it actually framed as a privacy issue in the leaked document though? If I was understanding it correctly they were using the fact that privacy is not explicitly guaranteed as a right in the constitution as their groundwork for overturning these decisions. Which can also be used to say people do not have the right to do sex acts they want (sodomy) in the privacy of their home nor are they allowed to marry who they want.

Going back to this though. The decision would have to come out by the end of the current term which is in the summer, so it would still be well before the midterms.

Err.. midyear election when you won the last presidential election, I think it is probably moderates that won't show up.

Serious question if someone wouldn’t mind explaining: how would a dem supermajority have done this?

Basically via the commerce clause the federal government can regulate economic activity (such as abortion clinics) even if the states don't like it - they could pass a law allowing medical providers to offer abortion services under whatever circumstances they like. Similarly a Republican supermajority (or regular majority if they kill the filibuster) could ban abortion nationwide.

The Supreme Court also could chuck existing caselaw out the window and throw out a federal law allowing abortion but it would be a major break from what powers they've currently allowed the federal legislature to have.
