A person is able to believe that every fetus deserves to be carried to term, and that every baby is born should be provided for by a generous, comprehensive safety net. These two beliefs are not in direct conflict, and this is not a hypothetical or even rare position for a pro-life person to take.

However, in America 2022, you cannot cast a vote that satisfies both of these objectives. You're either voting for the former or the latter, or not voting at all.

The entire point of voting is to direct the government to use governmental power to achieve your policy goals, right? So, looking at this problem logically:

-If you vote D, the government will use its power to protect abortions and provide the safety net.
-If you vote R, the government will use its power to ensure births.

But these people are activists, meaning they spend their time, money, and effort in pursuit of their policy goals beyond just voting.

-If you vote D, activism would involve getting more babies born... which means interfering with people obtaining legal abortions, which society only tolerates to a point, greatly limiting the impact you can have.
-If you vote R, activism would mean helping provide for the babies that are born.. which means donating/volunteering/adopting, which society actively rewards, encourages, and places few limits upon.

It seems pretty logical to me in this case that voting R is the option that achieves their goals the best.

This is not hypocrisy, it's living in the real world and making the best choice possible out of imperfect options.

-Vote all D: Good
-Vote all R: Evil
-Vote any mix of the two ever for any reason: Stupid and/or hypocritical

No, because order matters. If you want a world in which abortion is illegal, the FIRST step is to make it so that a child born this way is taken care of. UNTIL you do that, you are admitting you don't actually care about the kind of life that child is going to have. It's like adopting a dog before being able to feed it. Congratulations, you're going to cause the dog to starve to death. First be able to take care of the dog, then adopt the dog. Doing it one way is sane and rational. Doing it the other way makes you a fucking animal abuser.

Again, that only makes sense if you believe abortion isn’t murder, which these people emphatically do not. To them, your argument is “let’s kill some babies so the rest can live comfortably.”

I don't like vaccine mandates, but when people are dying because of a preventable illness that can kill others too my personal beliefs need to take a back seat in the name of doing the least harm. Overwhelming evidence shows vaccines are harmless to like 98% of the population, so there really isn't an excuse to not vaccinate in that scenario and in my opinion you're a selfish douche for not doing your part.

So likewise, I don't like abortions at baseline because I've seen both sides where expectant patients were devastated by the choice they didn't want to make and patients who just couldn't be bothered to buy condoms or use birth control because fuck you.

I still support their right to make the latter choice, even though it's the most selfish and bullshit rationale, because the alternative is two dead people instead of one.
