It's not really in the ER doc job description to think about long term things, people. They think and work best in the moment and their primary job is saving lives. It's not really surprising to be there is such a split in mentality. I saw it my classes too. In fact, I might even say amongst doctors in general it's about 60-40 choice versus life depending on whether it's community versus urban practice.

Many docs who subscribe to pro life are likely to be attracted to those fields who deal with it on a regular basis, like family, er, and even OBGyn.

The national opinion poll, conducted Sept. 19-20 after Ginsburg’s death was announced, suggests that many Americans object to President Donald Trump’s plan, backed by many Senate Republicans, to push through another lifetime appointee and cement a 6-3 conservative majority on the court.

The poll found that 62% of American adults agreed the vacancy should be filled by the winner of the Nov. 3 matchup between Trump and Democratic former Vice President Joe Biden, while 23% disagreed and the rest said they were not sure.

Eight out of 10 Democrats - and five in 10 Republicans - agreed that the appointment should wait until after the election.

I see it the other way - they aren't.

If they wait and Trump loses you get a Dem administration and justice, the court stays majority-ish conservative.

If they wait and Trump wins, perfect.

If they don't wait, Trump absolutely 100% has to win because if he loses, they're going to stack the court, repeal the filibuster, etc.

I'm going to be honest the way McConnell and Trump are acting it's extremely reckless even for them, Not only would forcibly filling the seat before the election basically be point blank kleptocracy and hypocricy of the highest order but if the Dem's win it literally means all bet's are off, the republicans would minge all they want but they basically went and stacked the court ideologically in their favour purely because of oppertunism and nothing else and they would have no leg to stand on if the Dem's did the same in the name of Balance and fighting corruption etc. basically going full retard. At least if they WIN the election then they can turn around and say America sided with them but forcing the issue before the election would backfire severely in the long run.
