I definitely am not on facebook discussing politics
Look into why Reid went nuclear in the first place.
Spoiler: Republicans were stonewalling Obama lower court picks, he changed the votes to 60 for the lower courts. Mitch is the one changed it to 60 for the Supreme Court.
I'm glad the Republicans are gripping right now. Fuck them
When you gotta vote blue to save democracy, but also hate how far left that'll push policies even though the alternative is rule by fascism. Conservatives are in a real bind this year, maybe next time they'll try not electing a demagogue the same year democrats elect probably the most unpopular women in politics probably ever.

Actually the could and did stonewall ACB, the problem is Republicans broke those rules too to ran her nomination through.
And I mean broke those rules; im not being hyperbolic. Her nomination shouldn't have made it out of committee but thats easy to pull off if you just ignore all the rules and norms.

i thought you were over rules and norms?
That was the straw that broke the camels back for me, yes

Ridiculous to think that if the shoe were on the other foot and Hillary Clinton had gotten elected that Republicans wouldn't expand the Court themselves the next time they had control or just never appoint another Justice and we'd have a 7-seat Court right now.
I also like doing things the way they've been done but the GOP has no interest in that and they're ripping up the entire concept of a Republic because of the power they'd lose federally if they didn't.

The current federal government was going to be the tipping point at which "rules and norms" changed permanently regardless of who won in 2016. The only way you could have somehow preserved the status quo would be to build a time machine and Death Note the entire GOP leadership back in like 2008.
It just took this long for the enlightened centrists both in the Democrat party and on BG to realize there's no option other than the nuclear one unless you want to literally burn it all down. In which case welcome comrades
I dont pretend to know enough history, but I thought the current type of obstructionism, and general all around fuck the libs, got turned up to 9.5 under Gingrich, then up to 11 with McConnell

Gingrich was definitely the first GOP "superhero" - e.g. actually willing to forego all decorum and spearhead policy initiatives at any cost. It worked, so now they all do it.
There is no Democrat yet in history that has matched their vigor.
The thing is, at some point American politics has to get past the obstructionism. We can't survive wild swings of policy every 2-6 years that destroys the previous 2-6 years. It's like living in the Tribal politics world, and it will destroy everything in the longrun.
AOC 2032
Conservative heads would explode.
