I can definitely understand going digital if you don't want the space taken up by physical copies, but if you're someone who is patient with buying games, the disc version would probably end up saving more money in the long run.
Definitely. Some games drop really fast in price.

That seems backwards in my experience. Later in a games life they tend to go stupid cheap on digital because it's more profitable than disc since it doesn't create a copy that can be resold as used, which eliminates at least 1 sale they could have had, possibly more.

Anyone know the numbers? I'd start going for disc more often of that's the case.

RRoD has been the only really major issue which greatly affected the 360. PS3 had it's own similar issue but not to the same frequency. Every system mostly just had hardware updates to help with cooling and noise reduction so if that really matters to you, then don't be an early adopter.

It's mostly cases for retail. Walmart has buy one get one fre//discount all the time. Smaller stores with slower business tend to discount often. Unless you're Nintendo finding physical copies on sales is pretty easy. There are whole reddits dedicated to it.

EDIT: Quick example. Trials of Mana came out two months ago but amazon has it $10 off for only the physical copy. More if you use their coupon.

The argument I heard for physical copies going on sales more/faster is because they're a product you need to move otherwise it takes storage etc., which is a non issue for digital versions.
Quick examples when googling (this is all in Poland mind you):
    Nier Yorha (PS4) - Digital - 42USD, Physical - 20USD
    DQ11 (PS4) - Digital - 62USD, Physical - 32USD

They're both older games, but jRPGs especially can get really cheap for physical here after a while (FF, Tales etc.).

I'm not planning on getting it at launch for now. The 2 games that would get me though are Horizon and Spider-Man. Personally, I'd go disc version as I like having my games as the actual hard copy. Idk why, I just do. Also, I can watch my Blu-Rays on there for the movies that I have

Pushing disc-less is also a pretty big FU to the borrow/trade/resale market. I can understand people like the convenience of digital, but this is one of those erosion of gaming consumer rights things I fear folks need to be more on the ball with, especially once streaming games becomes more viable nationwide. So, while I'd say to get the model with a drive to emphasize that consumers still care, I suspect the industry narrative there is to still grab as much control over the product as possible regardless of what's good for the consumer.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World. The game no longer exists. Unless you have an xbox with it downloaded you can't get the game anymore. Digital can be scary.

They only way I would go digital is if I could still purchase physical copies and have a registration key that I could use to play said title digitally and would be void of use when the disk is inserted and played somewhere, this would circle around to be a huge pain in the ass and require always online to accomplish. Which is something that we have seen in the past with Sim City and Diablo to not be well received.

Ugh, don’t remind me. I have my 360 with Outrun 2006 SP, and After Burner Climax. Shit is impossible to get now.

We taking bets as to whether or not Sony+MS will try to push to UIDs on discs this time around to do what MS tried to with Xbone last-gen? Where the disc is just a glorified serial key + installer for folks with shit internet/data caps (re: me). Kills the sharing/used game market, but does have the perk of physical owners not needing to insert the disc to play after install, since the game is already registered to your account. Of course it'd also kill offline installs in the process.

I also hope they drop the crap where developers can block you from streaming scenes in a game. In fact, give PS5 a nice option to dump near-raw over ethernet to a PC to stream at a better quality/use your usual overlay stuff.

There's almost always an emulator/ROM option, at some point, as even discs will eventually go bad or become obsolete tech, or for when the digital download option is pulled, for various reasons, or when your machine bricks. In the end, it's the only way to always have a copy of any game, and even then, unless you maintain it, reliant upon someone else to make it accessible.

Gotta pray my PS4 with P.T. Never breaks.

I won’t be buying ps5 early, if only for the reason I still have so many ps4 games to play through.

I really don't want the disc version, but I always regret getting games digitally because I always end up selling games I don't play.

Something like this, hell anything would work. I've bought a ton of PC games that were just boxes with codes inside. I don't know why I'm so drawn to the digital PS5 but unless there's an option I'm going to have to get the disc version.

In the age of steam and everyone complaining cause epic is the new steam, the idea of an all digital console shouldn't bother me but idk if I'm ready to take that plunge. Also, if backwards compatibility is a thing I'm gonna need a disk drive so I think the choice is probably clear.

After how Sony has been a complete little bitch about TLoU2 and their bullshit standards of censorship but letting TLoU2 slip by. They can go fuck themselves with that system.

What censorship? I only know of DMC5 where Trish had some lensflare to cover her crack.
